Our futures are something worth the investment and something that should definitely be taken with a lot of consideration every once in awhile. But what I'm talking about here is the need to plan everything that will happen to us, because the last time I checked, unless you were an extremely talented psychic, it is almost nearly impossible. We can take different preventative measures and plan our lives according to how we want them to go, but it's those random moments in time that ultimately define our lives.
There's a huge difference between being an organized human and being a responsible person, and then being completely and totally insane. Don't get me wrong: we all do it. I've definitely found myself time and time again trying to plan out every little aspect of my life, and then getting bummed each time things don't go the way I expect them to. The more I actively thought about the prospects of my life, the unhappier I felt. If something minor wasn't to go the way as planned, it was absolutely crushing and felt like the end of the world. But it isn't.
Many people believe that nothing good ever just comes into your life, and that you can only work hard to make your own opportunities. And while this is partly true, what if our lives already had a natural layout to them and we didn't even know? What if things really are just meant to be, and there's nothing in this world that we can actively do to change that? We constantly question everything, creating too many "ifs" in the world.
I truly am a believer in the cliché saying that the best moments are the ones that happen when we least expect it. Whether or not it's saying hi to the cute boy next to you in class, or that impromptu coffee date with someone you haven't seen in years, it truly should leave you with a sense of freedom; cause after all, a healthy sense of spontaneity keeps the creative soul alive.
Now, I cannot say I am a totally reformed over-planner, as I still constantly carry around my little agenda. But I take it week by week, with some time reserved at the beginning of the month for long-term goals and plans. I keep myself busy and have learned to live in the moment with every able part of myself, because one day later in life I am going to actually be living that future I oh so carefully designed for myself, and will look back on some of the best memories …that weren’t planned.
