With the year coming to a close and the stress of finals slowly overcoming us, sometimes we forget to appreciate just how awesome our school is. Our school has so many great things going for it, even if they sometimes seem insignificant. Here are some of the 20 best little things about UVA:
- "The Good Old Song" can be sung on any day and at any time.
- Being able to walk past the Lawn and see everyone hanging out or doing their homework.
- The Lawn in general.
- The secret societies delivering pizza to libraries during finals.
- Clapping for your professors after their last lecture in a class.
- Giving a standing ovation to a professor for their last lecture ever.
- The fact that streaking the Lawn is a tradition.
- Cheering on your 'Hoos whether we win or lose.
- The good kind of peer pressure you feel when it seems like the entire student body is running outside.
- Having the most suggestive names for buildings (examples: Gooch dorm, Balz-Dobie dorm, Cocke Hall).
- The fact that no one tells you how steep Humpback Mountain is before you hike it for the first time, but they do tell you how the view is completely worth it.
- Fully accepting the “guys in ties, girls in pearls" look for at least one day of the year: Foxfield.
- White Spot, Christian's, Qdoba, Cook-Out, etc. for late night eating.
- The Virginian, Take It Away, Boylan, Bodo's…or basically any restaurant that Charlottesville has to offer for eating at any other time of the day.
- The fact that a wahoo is also a type of fish that can drink twice its own body weight…
- The slightly comforting and slightly annoying feeling when you struggle to find an open seat in the library.
- The fact that thousands of students come to watch the unveiling of holiday lights and listen to some a capella groups for Lighting of the Lawn.
- Setting your backpack down and knowing that it will still be there when you come back from getting Greenberry's thanks to the Honor Code.
- Seeing someone wearing orange and blue and beaming with pride.
- Knowing that no matter what, your fellow 'Hoos have your back.
