Scented candles are more than just a way to make your home smell nice. When I go to a candle shop, I smell all of the candles and pick whichever ones smell the best to my tastes while also having a cohesive theme or type of scent. Such purchases don't require much thought, but you may want to start. Many studies have determined that scents can help manipulate your mood or the way you feel. Ever since I discovered this, I have researched and taken notes on what type of scents do what. Now when I go candle shopping, I know exactly what I'm looking for.
Knowing what the different scents do, I've been able to find candles that help relieve negative vibes and heighten the good ones. I've always enjoyed owning candles just for the reason that they look pretty and smell nice, but now that I get them with a purpose, they have become something a lot bigger in my life. They have many therapeutic and relaxing effects, something everyone could use.
So I've put together a few scents to get rid of or invite certain moods. These are the ones that have worked best in my experience, and should hopefully do the same for you!
The biggest problem for me is my anxiety. The scents best for relieving anxiety are lavender, sandalwood, rose, and chamomile. I recommend lighting two candles at the same time, such as lavender and chamomile.
When dealing with grief, the best two scents to use are rose and sandalwood. These two help soothe and calm you down.
To relieve stress, use citrus scents such as lemon, orange, or grapefruit. It helps to invigorate you and brighten your spirits. Citrus scents have also shown to help you concentrate.
When you are feeling tired or worn out and want to feel more aware, cinnamon or peppermint will do the trick. It also helps to calm you down.
For a more intimate scent you should go for vanilla. It is known to be a natural aphrodisiac, so a vanilla-scented candle will definitely help set the mood.
To help you get those happy vibes, honeysuckle and orange work great. They are very bright and light scents that aren't too overpowering.
To feel tranquil or peaceful, coconut has shown to help achieve that.
A nice eucalyptus scent can help your mental focus. Pairing this with a peppermint candle as well really helps you focus while staying relaxed.
To gain more energy, use a pine or clove scent. It'll help give you that extra boost you might need during the day.
Lastly, if you are having trouble sleeping, try lighting a chamomile candle before you go to bed. Just be sure to blow out the candle before you go to sleep!
Once again, these are the results of my own personal experience, and you may need to adjust accordingly should you find different results. I hope that you are able to use this as a template to go off of and to also change the way you go about lighting candles. It has made a much more positive impact for myself. Turns out that being obsessed with candles has some benefits too!
