I toss and turn, then my eyes slowly begin to open. Dare I even look at the clock, when barely any light is shining through the shade of my window? What time did my body wake me up this time? Honestly, I'm lucky to get in six hours. That is what a call a solid night of sleep. Most people in college by their sophomore year have found a method to the madness of scheduling. They allow themselves to have minimal Friday classes, and optimal sleeping time with scheduling late morning/early afternoon classes. I, however, am one of the few people who would prefer to have early classes. They allow me to get everything I need to do, done early on. Regardless of my 11:30 a.m. start time for classes, I always find myself waking up around 8:15 a.m. to get my day going. I love it. The life of an early riser is a life that promotes success, productiveness, and leads to a life of happiness; and I wouldn't do it any other way.
I look presentable. My friends can attest to this. Never have I once rolled into class in my pajamas, sweatpants, or with my hair not done. I'm not bashing the scrubs-- being comfortable is fun. However looking sloppy and lazy is not being comfortable. College nights are long, whether you went to the library for six hours or went out to the bars. The best thing you can do for yourself is to pretend the long hours don't phase you, get up early, and get your ducks in a row. Look good = feel good.
I don't feel like I've wasted an entire day. Who likes to wake up realizing all your friends went to breakfast without you? Who likes to wake up with an automatic time strain? I don't, which is why I'm productive by 9 a.m. everyday. Laying around in bed for five hours watching Netflix is totally acceptable, but on a Sunday. That's what they're for. Don't waste a perfectly good day on being in a hurry. The day doesn't deserve that.
I'm always on time. I can honestly say the last time I was "late" for something was homecoming my freshman year of high school, and it was because my boyfriend had to play a baseball game. We were late to pictures by ten minutes and that was it. Getting up early allows me to get the things I need to do done and out of the way so I can give the courtesy of time to the following time commitments in my day. I believe everyone's time is equally valuable. Fashionably early is the new fashionably late. Wake up early; the professional you will thank you later.
Time: The Most Valuable Thing We Have
People who wake up early appreciate and have a very strong concept of time. Time is our main form of currency when it comes to life, because to us, time is everything. To an early riser, time is being up early enough to not wait in line at Starbucks because no one else is there. Time is making my bed and actually feeling good about it. Time is sitting at my desk with my planner open, making a schedule for my day. Time is not having my heart race because I'm never in a hurry or rushing. Time is appreciating breakfast as what it is--the best meal of the day. Time is listening to music in bed in the morning because you can. Time is having a healthy lifestyle where you can exercise at your own pace. Time is being able to see the sunrise, because there isn't anything a whole lot better than that.
There are 24 hours in a day. My goal is to use as much of those as I can, because eventually, time runs out, and all you have left to look back on are the things you did in that time. The early bird gets the worm, and I shamelessly get it every day.
