Freshman Year of College. A time like no other. New opportunity, new adventure, a fresh start. But with all the legends and myths surrounding college, what it’s actually like is so different from what I expected. Here’s some interesting things I told myself about college that ended up being a bit false.

End of Freshman Year Me @ Beginning of Freshman Year Me:

College will be easy.

  1. It’ll be just like senior year, but way more fun!
  2. I’ll have so much more free time.
  3. I might not go Greek.
  4. I’ll spend a lot of my time in my dorm room.
  5. I don’t need to attend all the freshman ‘get-to-know-you’ thingys.
  6. If an orientation thingy says ‘mandatory’ it’s totally mandatory.
  7. I’ll totally remember matriculation in four years when I’m graduating.
  8. No one dresses up for Halloween in college.
  9. I’ll never even think about changing my major.
  10. There’s no way I’ll get into the theatre school.
  11. I don’t miss my family that much.
  12. There’s no way my meal plan will run out.
  13. I’ll always eat three meals a day.... And snacks.
  14. I’ll eat so much healthier now that I’m in college.
  15. I have a pretty good body.
  16. I’ll go to the gym once… no, twice a week.
  17. I haven’t changed that much since high school.
  18. I won’t hang out with nerds in college (If my college friends are reading this, I love you guys very much).
  19. I’ll ace public speaking; I’m an actor.
  20. Boys will be so much more mature in college.
  21. There will be so many available guys; they’ll have to form a line.
  22. I’ll totally have time to look put-together for class everyday.
  23. I figured out who I am in high school, I’ll have no more existential crises.
  24. I’ll never stay in on a Friday night.
  25. I can do an 8 a.m. class, no problem!
  26. A 9 a.m. class will be a peice of cake.
  27. I’ll have better grades because I’m in class for less time.
  28. I'll use the library as a place to study.
  29. My professor’s will be just as accessible as my high school teachers.
  30. They’ll actually stick to their syllabus.
  31. All my lectures will be totally engaging.
  32. I won’t doze off in class.
  33. I’ll use stuff I learned from gen. eds. in real life.
  34. I know how to economize and not spend money.
  35. I’ll save money while in college to pay off my debt.
  36. Nobody will slack off because everybody is paying to be here.
  37. Group projects will be so much easier because people care what grade is on their transcript now.
  38. I’m pretty organized.
  39. I’ll definitely remember that big, crucial assignment without writing it down.
  40. I’ll remember to go get my laundry.
  41. I’ll join all the clubs I can.
  42. I can fit more in my schedule.
  43. I can pull an all nighter.
  44. I’ll actually wear all these free T-shirts.
  45. I’ll always find parking.
  46. I’ll keep in touch with all my friends from high school.
  47. People will act way more mature in college; they’ll leave petty drama in high school.
  48. This is fine. I'm fine.
  49. I'm so glad I know what I want to do with my life.

College is sometimes a pain but overall, I love college!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
