Hey future me,
I hope everything is going well and that you've been enjoying yourself lately. Hopefully you're making a good amount of money, because right now chicken tenders with rice is getting pretty boring. I have a feeling you're probably in a city somewhere, maybe San Francisco, New York, Chicago? I imagine there's been a point that rent came a little close to being late or groceries had to last for a month or so. Whatever you're doing I hope you're not working yourself to death. I know that whatever you'll be doing, you'll be putting your full effort into it. Just be sure to take some time to enjoy the company of others around you and go explore. I've had doses of being able to explore places unfamiliar to me but take those opportunities and make the most of them. Get out and see Boston because you've always wanted to. Follow Dave Matthews around the country because why the hell not? Do the things that are going to make you happy and provide for a great work-life balance.
Also, if you want to start a business go ahead and take that risk. Make sure that you're keeping others in mind that you need to help provide for but if it's something obtainable, go ahead and do it. Whether it's that grilled cheese restaurant that you wanted to start in 12th grade or if it's the concert streaming service that you're thinking of now, don't worry about the capital. Put together a solid plan and make sure that you've covered every area of the business and then go out and try to raise capital. Who knows, you could be the next Air BNB or Uber, or maybe you're the next Myspace. You'll never know if you don't try. You've always wanted to be your own boss. Go out and try to achieve that dream.
I know sure as hell you don't still think about the grades you got in college. Yeah, you didn't graduate top of class, but damn you did a great job once you got into marketing. It's what you're good at. There have definitely been some great times in college. Remember that time you were a hamburger in the food race during the football games? Or what about that time you saw Swayze at Madipalooza? I hope you reminisce on these great times but continue to make plenty of memories.
Let's not forget about the great thing you have going with Tori. I'm sure you're probably taking a picture and becoming an Instagram husband but wow does she light up your world. Not everyone is able to connect with someone that they can say is their best friend and love of their life. You're one lucky guy. Just remember, whenever you propose, have someone take a picture. Go out and explore Paris, London, Italy, everywhere. And most importantly, make sure that there's always a smile on her face and that you're doing everything in your power to make her happy.
Future me, I want you to be the best person you can be. There's going to be decisions that you're not going to be happy about, and there's going to be those that will change your life forever. Don't just follow the ways of society. If you see something wrong, speak out and take action to change what's wrong. It took you awhile to figure that out but hopefully moving forward you're more aware and aren't afraid to take action.
To end this letter I just want to remind you to do what makes you happy. There are a ton of opportunities that we've let pass us by and there's nothing worse than looking back in regret. Take those chances and if something doesn't go as planned at least then you can say that you tried. We're about to graduate and everything is about to change. Who knows where I'll end up. There are so many uncertainties that come with graduating but all you can do is make the best decisions you can and go with the flow.
Go explore. Go start a band. Go create that campaign you've been dreaming about.
Just go and be you.
