Dear Past Me,

At this time last year, you were stress about a series of issues, which I laugh about now. You spent countless days, pacing around your house waiting for those final college acceptances. The one you wanted the most, obviously took the longest to come. Choosing to attend your dream and number one school, was definitely one of the best choices you ever made. You smartly didn’t allow anyone to influence your choices. Around this time last year, you were also going through the stress of picking out your prom dress, I kind of wish I could go back to that time, because that was a great time. Somedays, I definitely miss those days at high school, playing the sports I love, and being around my best friends everyday. Especially, being friends, with people that I’m not very friendly with anymore. Those were definitely the easier days. But, then I remember the day I graduated, being such a bittersweet day. I was sad to be leaving the school district I grew up in, but I also was excited to see the moments that would be coming in college.

Dear Present Me,

With only a very months few months left of my freshman year of college. I can honestly say this year has been a roller coaster ride, but I wouldn’t want any other way. I have met the best people in college, and have had the best experiences with them. I definitely couldn’t get through this crazy experience without my roommate, and her humor and looking up to her as a sister figure. College has also introduced me to many different people, especially ones that I was lucky enough to become friends with that live on my floor. Although, you’ve made friends at college, you never forget about your best friends at home. Even though you don’t always see them, they mean the world to you and always will. You are also lucky, that you have a great support system with your family, also supporting you in everything you do in college. I definitely learned a lot about myself in my first year of college. Such as time management, is a very important lesson to learn while in college. Without even realizing it, one day you have like 3 papers, and 2 readings due. They sneak up behind you without you even noticing. I have also learned how to be my own person. You cannot allow people to walk over you, there comes a time that you have to stand up for yourself. College has also taught me that caffeine especially ice coffee is your best friend. To get through those two hour lectures, coffee is definitely a solution. Lastly, college has definitely taught me how to become a better student, whether its writing a stronger essay in class, to being more independent, and figuring out things on my own. My first year of college has definitely turned me into a person, past me would be proud of.

Dear Future Me,

There are always things to remember. Stop living on the past, live in the present. Stop remembering the bad moments, and start remembering the good ones. Although it isn’t always shown why, Everything happens for a reason. Even if you don’t know the reason, there is probably one. People change, and you can’t prevent that, you just have let them be. Always remember “Happiness is a journey not a destination”. People will come and go in your life, and you will never truly know why. Always remember, not to change for anybody. If people don’t love you for you, that is their loss, not yours. Don’t let one bad grade define you, lift yourself up and try harder the next time. Find a guy, who will love you for you. Remember to be the best you can be. Don’t forget to have fun. Find a major that will lead into a job that you will love doing what you do everyday.

Sincerely

Kristi

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
