Hello there,
You may have clicked on this in hopes of finding an answer to your future, or if you're like me, you're procrastinating and thought this would be okay to read since it deals with school. Well, you're right and wrong.
I'm going to start by saying that I don't have the perfect answer you're looking for. Sorry, I really wish that I did. Only you can know what is right for you. What I can tell you is that I was in the same place that you are when I was in high school. You're not alone.
It can feel isolating when you're the only one in your friend group who doesn't know what they want to do once they're done with high school. Everyone talks about their dream colleges, that they have now been accepted to, and can go on for hours about their future they planned out since they were five. Those kids always annoyed me the most.
What no one talks about is what can be done to help those who weren't thinking about their future while eating glue in kindergarten. I know that when I was a kid, I used to tell people that I was going to be a doctor. I always laugh when I think about this because there is no way that I would pass all those math and science classes. I'm sure that when you were a kid, you also had a profession picked out like a princess or an astronaut, but can't see yourself doing that now.
I finally found something that I was passionate about when I was in middle school. I loved to sing and perform in musicals. Being a part of High School Musical became my new goal in life. Hey, don't act like you didn't watch those movies too!
If you haven't found your passion yet, don't worry. It will soon come to you along with many more interests. Look at me, I seriously thought that I could become a famous actress or singer because of my new passion. However, I soon realized I couldn't sign up for classes that helped me accomplish that. So I found something else that I was interested in- journalism.
You can find a passion that you're wanting to seek out as a profession and still not have your four year plan set up. That's what happened to me. I knew I had to go to college but I also knew that I didn't want to stay in Wisconsin. So, I procrastinated with applying for a college here because I was already accepted in Las Vegas.
The best advice I can give you is to apply for college. Don't wait like I did. Yes, you might not know what you want to go to school for at the moment, but there are so many people in the same boat. You basically have two more years to figure out what you want to do while taking general education classes. Who knows, one of those classes may even help determine what you want to do. You need to keep your mind open and become a sponge by soaking everything in.
Like I mentioned, I don't have the ideal answer for you but I can give you the advice that I didn't have when I was in your position. Don't freak out about the future. Enjoy your senior year and have fun with your friends. You have all the time in the world to think about your future and the great thing is, you can change it as many times as you please. Your future is not set in stone. Find something you love and see where that path takes you.
It's not fun to stress out over the little things in life. Trust me, I know. Instead, have fun exploring where life is going to take you next.
From,
Someone who was in your shoes
