A Letter To My High School Choir Director
upsplash

Dear High School Choir Teacher,

For starters, I want to thank you, for not only showing me my love for music but my love for people. Not to mention the fact that you made high school not so bad, and showed me there's good still in our city. I decided to go out on a limb and take choir to feed my love for music at school. I wasn't one of the kids that had been your student for 7 or 8 years, but we bonded so well during that first year.

You taught me to love myself. You taught me that I was talented. You taught me life skills, things that I will hold on to forever. You were the giver of hugs and a listening ear during the hardest days of my life. You told me to take care of myself when all I wanted to do was give up. You gave me a new appreciation for not only music but for life too. And you gave me guidance toward my career choice for the future. If it wasn't for you I would not be starting to study music therapy, nor would I be the person I am today. If I wouldn't have found your class as a shy 15-year-old I wouldn't have the life I have today.

There are a million things that I love about you but to sum it up - thank you for being so wonderful to me for four years. Thank you for teaching me everything you could about music, about life, and about how to be a strong woman. And also about how to be as wonderful as you every day. I look up to you and I will always strive to have the impact you had on me on other people, and I will remember your lessons for years to come.

Thank you.

I know this isn't the longest letter but it's how I know to show my gratefulness to you. Even on your hardest days you remained kind to us and I can never thank you enough.

Love,

Your Choir Student

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
