It all started two years ago. We were both so young and unsure of the world of college. I remember seeing if you needed help unpacking. I looked into your room and saw Pride and Prejudice. I knew we were going to be friends. I remember moving all of your freshly unpacked stuff into my room. We went down to orientation together, waiting on those stone steps on a strangely cold September day. After orientation, we hung out for a bit, just relaxing. I remember sprinting down to the Kimball building to get your I-Card picture taken before they closed. That night, we went to the talent show and had a blast. I didn’t know that I would be meeting one of my best friends that day.
We have had some great times together. Whether we were going out to a party or staying home watching a movie, we always had fun. We have discovered some great movies together, like Boyhood and Breakfast at Tiffany’s. There are our songs that we sing too loud all the time. Our jokes and weird ways are second nature. I know you are always there to listen and I’m always there to make you laugh. Even when we are hundreds of miles away, we always come back to each other like not a day has gone by. You put up with me and I put up with you. That’s our job. And it has been my favorite.
We are each other’s cheerleader, therapist, and shoulder to cry on. I am the sensible reminder that we do not need a giant bowling set for our apartment. You are the sensible reminder that I don’t always need the chocolate. We also have our own traditions together. Treat-Yo-Self week is the best week of the year, by far. We are two different people, but it works. I know that a late-night run to Walmart means craziness and laughter. I know I always have a buddy to go on the midnight McDonald’s run with no judgement. You are my hype man. You make sure that when I fall into my depressive moods, that you are there to bring me back up. I don’t think there is anyone out there who can do what you do so well. You are the Michelle to my Romy.
There is no better duo than us two. These years I’ve spent with you have been great! You are my support and I am yours. We will always be there for each other. When we have to part ways, I know that there will be one person in the world that is on my side. The one person who can put up with my Hamilton obsession (relatively well). You stay up with me until two in the morning, talking about boys and life. You read me my horoscope at the beginning of the year and I encourage you to sometimes treat yourself. Cheers to you! I love you.
