Dear Mom,

Thank you,

You are a mom like no other. No one understands our bond and our craziness. You gave me life. A life I would not change for the world. We have had many ups and downs but we still make it through the day without killing each other. I think that is a good thing.

Growing up you have been my rock. You did not abandon me like others did. You held on to me and made sure I was loved, bathed, clothed, fed, and had a roof over my head. I grew up learning who I was as a person and you taught me not to let others opinions get to me. You showed me to be a strong, independent women. I can not thank you enough.

Thank you for being there for me through all of the volleyball games, the tears, the award ceremonies, and field trips. Thank you for showing me you are one of my number fans as well as always being there. Thank you for having faith in me all the time no matter how many times I may have disappointed you.

We may not have had the picture perfect life growing up, but no matter what you made it work. You managed to keep a roof over our head no matter how hard it was. You managed to feed us food even if we were unsure where the meal was coming from. You managed to give us money for school field trips even though they were not in the budget and you simply wanted us to have the school experience and make friends. You are so strong and I can not be happier to call you my mom.

With going off to college I have learned that everyone will need their parents at some point in their life. I need you to send me packages so I know no one has forgotten me. I have you send me money so I can but food, and be able to do my laundry. You never say no to me. When you do, I understand why. You are my rock and I can not thank you enough for helping me and being there for me.

I hope with me being away at school you have learned that you will always need your little girl. No matter what life throws our way we still manage to find our way back to each other's arms and be there for each other through the thick and thin.

I love you so much, and simply thank you for the life you have given me.

Sincerely,

Your little girl

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
