A Letter To Americans

In light of the election, it's time for all Americans to come together

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past week, you know that Donald Trump was elected as the 45th President of the United States. I’m not here to tell anyone who they should have voted for on Tuesday because that is in the past, and as Americans it is time for us to look to the future.

Sharing and retweeting posts isn’t going to change the fact that Trump reached 270 and Clinton conceded. The protests honestly won’t change that either. Obviously I can’t tell you not do any of these things because they are freedoms that we are entitled to as Americans – Although I’m pretty sure that the protests aren’t peaceful by any measure. However, I can ask what the point is? Okay so maybe your candidate didn’t win, but how is doing any of this going to fix that? It’s not.

At this point, we just need to look forward because we can’t change the past. We need to come together as Americans. We’re the United States for crying out loud! Emphasis on the ‘United’ part. If we just sit here and decide that Trump’s America is going to suck, it will. If we decide that Trump’s America is filled with prejudices, then it will be. If you put a label on something, that’s what it will eventually become.

I’ll be the first to admit that Trump isn’t a great person, but there are aspects of him that are respectable. Let’s hear it for the fact that he isn’t accepting the Presidential salary, so that money can be used elsewhere! This bit made me realize this week that his intentions aren't as demonic as people say they are, and I think that he really does want to make America great again.

So, let’s put aside our differences and come together. (I’m not just talking to those who are anti-Trump, but also those who supported him. This is no time to gloat.) Let’s give the man a chance to run our country and see where it takes us. It’ll be different than what we’ve been used to, but change can be good.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
