An Open Letter To My Older Sisters
Jessica-Michelle Monette

Dear Tiffany & Victoria,

I want to start this letter off by saying a simple thank you. Thank you for being there for me the past eighteen years. Thank you for loving me (even if I was being a pain). Thank you for the never-ending support you poured out for me. Thank you for being present in my life. Thank you for being great role models. Honestly, thank you for EVERYTHING.

I'd be lying if I said being your little sister is easy. Because the truth is: It isn't. You two are such incredible individuals and due to that I have some really large shoes to fill. Somedays, that's discouraging. But most days, it's motivation to be the best me I can be. Our parents have incredible expectations that I have to meet (and I only have you two to thank for those). I appreciate the legacy you've left behind for me, because without it, I don't think I'd be half of the person I am today. Growing up the youngest of two successful, God-fearing, and compassionate individuals can seem intimidating, but I've loved nearly every moment of it. It's been tough, I'll admit. But with your love and support, I've made it through and I'm eternally grateful.

You two have impacted my life more than you'll probably ever know. I've looked up to the both of you my whole life. I learned how to be a daughter and sister by mirroring what you two do.

Both of you have served as my lifelong best friends. You've been there for literally everything, including my birth. You guys understand me like nobody else does, and you always will. We've shared so many laughs and created so many memories that I'll cherish forever. We've shared secrets among the years and we've created timeless inside jokes (literally every time we're together) and whenever we're together we always lose track of time. There will never be better friends than the both of you, I'm certain of it. We've made plans to be in each other's weddings and we share a deep love for Disney World. When I was younger, and y'all would babysit me, our age difference of twelve and six years seemed so much larger than it does today. Today, I feel like we're only a year a part. And I appreciate that, because you two don't baby me. You treat me like I'm an adult. Thank you for that.

But most importantly, you've always supported me no matter what and it was never a question whether or not you were there for me. No matter what my crazy ambitious mind comes up with, the two of you always back me up. You attended each and every dance recital, cheer or dance competition, football game, etc. You drove me to practices for the various organizations and teams I was a part of. You always made sure that at least one of you was there. You've never missed a birthday and we've spent nearly every holiday together. Even though I'm at Baylor, you both keep my LSU spirit alive. You two are the best, I'm certain of it.

Nobody will ever compare or relatively come close to either of you. I love you both dearly.

All my love,

Jessica-Michelle

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
