A Letter To My High School Teachers

Two words with one big meaning. Thank you.

A Letter To My High School Teachers

Dear (you know who you are),

It's officially my first official day of college. Thought I'd take this time to write a short but very brief letter of how much you mean to me. You may say "You did it!" but really, we did it. Together. You've not only taught me everything I needed to know to prepare myself for the next four years of my life, but you also taught me more than just social studies, math, and English. You taught me life lessons.

You encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and it's okay to be a little different from everyone else. I found parts of myself I wouldn't have been able to find if I wasn't sitting in your class or always looking forward to our after school chats. College decisions, SAT, ACT, final exams, and midterms. You helped me through it all and I can't thank you enough. When I missed school, you called to make sure I was okay.

You showed interest in aspects of my life outside of the academics. You cared about knowing how my family, boyfriend, and friends were doing. Thank you for showing me the importance of having a positive mindset. You were there for all the breakups, makeups, and irrelevant situations I was placed in. Laughs, cries, good times, and bad. Thank you, again. You believed in me more than any of my closest friends.

Holidays and Birthdays you'd always have a surprise for me. You made me feel like I can conquer this crazy thing called life. All because you showed you actually cared about me. The impact you've made on my life has made me the girl I am today. I wouldn't have been able to do half the things I do now if it wasn't for your constant pushing and reminders of the strong girl that is deep down inside of me. Also, thank you for checking in long after graduation.

Love,

Peyton

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
