A Letter To My Grandfather In Heaven

Thank you for making me who I am today.

A Letter To My Grandfather In Heaven
Christina Caouette

To my guardian angel,

Since day one, you've instilled countless values in me by the way you live your life. You taught me what it means to have fun and live happily. And for that, you've always been my hero. You've given me memories I will never forget, like the endless days we spent swimming in the pool every summer and the times we built the most epic forts in the basement. I'll cherish all the times you took us out on the boat and we would venture over to George's Island to explore the castle. And how can I forget the millions of times you'd purposely bonk your head on the door of the minivan because you knew that it would make me laugh uncontrollably. While we made these amazing memories over the years, you've taught me important life lessons along the way.

You taught me how to persevere. You showed me what it means to put my mind to something until I succeed. You had such a way with explaining things and educating everyone you met. I've seen you come up with countless contraptions to help solve everyone's problems. You've remodeled, built, and repaired too many items to count. So many people knew you as "Mr. Fix-It" because of your undying desire to come up with an efficient solution to every problem. All of my accomplishments in life have come to fruition because of the work ethic I've learned from watching you.

You taught me the importance of spending time as a family and making memories that will last forever. You and Nana have taken us on the most amazing vacations ever; Disney World, The Disney Cruise, and of course the Atlantis just to name a few. Those were some of the best times of my life, being able to spend time with the ones I love. I still to this day will never understand how you were able to plan those trips so that everyone was together. Your motto was "It's all about the grandkids", which still makes me smile when I picture you saying it. You put so much effort into giving us the best childhood we could ever ask for.

Finally, and most importantly, you taught me to believe in myself. I can't think of a time that you weren't cheering my name while holding your video camera at my soccer games, softball tournaments, school concerts, and dance competitions. You always wore that beaming smile, filled with such pride as you sat watching. Your constant support and excitement for everything I've accomplished means the world to me. Even when my crazy schedule got overly stressful, you reminded me that I am perfectly capable of doing it all. So thank you for believing in me when I found it impossible to believe in myself.

I miss you every single day and there is not a moment that passes in which I don't think of you. Sometimes I even mistakenly pick up the phone to call you. But even though you're not here physically anymore, I still feel your presence around me all the time. I hope you are enjoying watching me grow and encounter new experiences, and I know that you are proud of me. All I can ever say is thank you. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. Thank you for making me laugh. Thank you for always putting me first. And most importantly, thank you for loving me.

Love you forever,

Your granddaughter

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
