A Letter To My Future Self

Wishing myself well in the later years of my life.

A Letter To My Future Self

Hey you, it's me.

As you know, things might not be the best right now; Junior year has lived up to it's reputation of being the hardest year in high school and the time for college visits and developing yourself for the real world can be more than a bit stressful. And let's not forget smaller moments like school events and programs, work, friendships, relationships, and about dozens other things here and there. It really doesn't feel like it now, but I know that we'll get through this like we always do.

Hopefully you're happy with the college you've picked, and hopefully you've made some new friends, but kept some of the old ones as well. Maybe college will be the time you decide to fully break out of your shell, but perhaps you'll keep that shell nearby, seeing as we like to keep somethings unspoken and reserved (which isn't a problem). Hopefully you get to learn and experience new art programs, clubs, parties, lectures and a lot more typical college things. Side note: You probably will have the opportunities to try things that might not be very good, but also might not be very bad. Whatever you decide to do with these particular chances, for our sake, please think before you act. Trying new and exciting things like hiking and going on week long road trips can be fun, but then thinks like drugs and sketchy-late-night clubs might not be as entertaining.

Anyways, this will definitely not be the last time that you go through challenges and hard times. But that's okay, I know you like a good challenge, and you need the bad days to appreciate the good ones. And there's always good in every bad day don't forget. Why mope about the rain when you can dance in it? (You'd probably dance out in it anyways, regardless of your day being good or bad.)

I suspect that you've never regained that portion of sanity you lost back in your younger years. All I ask is that you've managed to hold onto a bit of sanity. We'll be needing that to deal with daily problems as we do now. Also, try to keep that weird thought process and creativity too. you never know when a crazy idea might start a revolution. Try not to underestimate what you can do, because you're filled with potential and determination. Sure, that potential and determination might not make themselves known until the day before a research paper is due, but they're there. Side note: If you haven't learned to manage your time by now, get on that. You don't need to be good at everything, but time management should really be one of them.

I trust that you know what you're doing, and that you still have friends and family to support you along the way. Best of luck, you'll probably still need some.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
