If I have learned anything while in college, it is that it is okay to leave the comfort zone behind. Someone once told me that life doesn’t really begin in the comfort zone, that you have to leave the comfort zone to truly see how to live. If that really is the case, then I would have to say that that is true.
Sometimes, there comes a point in our life where we have to accept that we can’t stay in the comfort zone forever. When I left the comfort zone, I started to learn more about myself and I learned how to be okay with the unpredictable.
Outside of the comfort zone, I dated people I never expected to date. I went to college parties and made new friends. I learned how to be myself and how to be okay with that. That’s the thing about leaving the comfort zone; you experience new things and you start to learn who you really are.
When you leave the comfort zone, you conquer new things. You reach new heights. You achieve things that you never thought you would achieve. You conquer your fears. I was terrified to leave my comfort zone. I didn’t want to leave my apartment to go meet new people. I didn’t want to try dating again.
I was perfectly fine just staying on my own. I was fine with my life the way it was, where everything had its place. I was fine.
But when I did leave the comfort zone, as terrifying as it was, I was okay. I met new people. I made new friends. I went on spontaneous trips and experienced life. I truly lived the life I thought I would never have.
That’s the thing.
When you leave the comfort zone, you realize what you’ve been missing out on the whole time. And you know what? Leaving the comfort zone might just be the best decision you ever make.
No one had a great life by simply playing it safe. If we all play it safe and stick to the comfort zone, we truly don’t get the chance to live.
