I remember the summer before my freshman year of college I couldn't wait to leave my small town. I was ready to meet new people, become more independent, and accomplish my new goals. Once I got to college, it was fun for the first weekend (it still is), but I began to miss and appreciate things that I never thought I would. I was homesick. I never thought I was the type of person to get homesick, but it sure did hit me hard the first month and a half of college. This is what I miss most when I'm away, and some that you will miss too.
My Job
I am a server. I miss my co-workers and regular guests. Even though serving can be stressful at times (especially on Sunday mornings/Friday nights), my co-workers and regular guests really do make my day. My co-workers and I prank each other ALL the time. I will never forget all the amount times we would randomly throw ice in each others aprons/shirts.
My Shower
Not having to wear flip-flops in the shower has been my dream for three months. Oh, and I miss getting to sing in the shower as loud as I want!
My High School Teachers
My teachers in high school were always willing to help me with literally ANYTHING. My business teachers at MVTHS were the ones that helped me grow in more ways than one. They pushed me to do things outside of my comfort zone, and always encouraged me to stay involved. I spent many extra hours in Mrs. Hayes' and Mrs. Mckay's room my junior/senior year of high school (these were extra hours they invested on me as well) and they never once told me to leave or that they were too busy help. I miss them so much.
My Bed
Nothing in the world beats sleeping in my own bed. Sleeping in a twin sized for months is absolutely the worse. I also sleep on a bunked bed so rolling off the bed is a fear that I encounter everyday.
My Parents
I miss my crazy parents. I missed my parents as soon as they left after moving me into college. I remember eating at the Chinese buffet with them right before they left and barely being able to eat because I had a huge gulp in my throat. I wanted to have a break down right then and there. My mom knows exactly how I am feeling at all times. Sometimes I come home from a long day at work or a tough day at school and she just knows. My dad and I spend late nights listening to music and talking about life. The time spent apart from my family has made me appreciate the moments I have with them so much more.
My Kitchen Table
I miss this for two reasons.
1) Home-cooked meals.
My moms spaghetti is surprisingly better than my dining halls.
2) A nice place to do homework.
I am always able to focus and get stuff done at my kitchen table. (I don't really know why)
My Brother
He's pretty cool I guess. I miss having that big brother around to torture, and occasionally spend quality time with. I love you BUBBA!
Privacy
I miss the peace and quiet of my bedroom sometimes! I live right next to the door that lets people into my floor...so I hear noise all hours of the night. Mostly drunken girls stumbling back to their room, or boys knocking on the door but still!
OMG...nothing can replace the coffee I have at home. It's magical.
My Second Parents
These would be my boyfriends parents. These two people are so special to me. They have helped me in so many aspects of my life. (WAY TOO MANY to list) I always miss watching our T.V. shows and our long conversations. I love them as if they were my own.
My Best Friends
I miss my best friends everyday I'm away. They are the people that truly know me. My best friends from high school are the friends that I literally don't have to do anything with. We can just lay down on our phones and not talk..and still enjoy each other's company! These are the girls that will sit with me for HOURS after a break up and make me feel better. Life is so much easier with them around. (I love you Mal, Lex, and Nattie.)
