We all do it. Every single one of us has experienced the intense joy and satisfaction that arises from opening up that Domino's pizza (and perhaps cheesy bread) after a night out on the town with your friends.
Within mere seconds, the entire pizza is gone, your fingers are covered in grease, and you're left thinking: what the hell just happened? I am a food-consuming monster.
After the seconds it takes us all to devour our late-night noms—we are left feeling very full at an obscure time—and very empty all rolled into one. I do not know why I do this. I feel like as soon as the sun goes down, I turn into this Cookie Monster type being, just snacking away at everything in sight.
It's not even like I'm hungry. I don't think anyone is at 1:30 am on a Friday. Someone says pizza or Jimmy John's and suddenly, we all find ourselves acting like we haven't seen food in months and need to consume anything and everything as soon as possible. After I finish eating, and the wave of paranoia passes, I come back to reality and realize I wasn't even hungry and I just wasted $7 I could have spent on groceries or even bills.
This phase of post night out eating needs to end. I need to just learn to say no. No more Domino's, Little C's, or Jimmy John's. The sad fact is-none of us are really hungry when we walk home from a night out, we are just bored and not ready to end the night.
Eat when you're hungry—not when your bored or cold or sad or experiencing any other emotion under the sun. To my friends who are reading this—join me in my fight to end late-night snacking. We need to conserve our money and our dignity together. It is only together that we can end our nights feeling healthy and happy instead of falling asleep clutching a $1 slice of pizza from Kate's (hasn't happened yet, but I've had that nightmare).
