Ladies, Order Your Own Ice Cream Cone

On couples and ice cream cones.

Ladies, Order Your Own Ice Cream Cone

In the summertime, I have the pleasure of working in an ice cream shop. I love it—the cute, cheerful atmosphere of the place, making the cones, the people that I make the cones for…

But one thing that I don’t love: couples who come into the shop and order ONE ice cream cone.

🍦

There’s nothing cute or fair about sharing a waffle cone, folks. You can’t split the cone in half. And you can hardly share it equally.

Can we have two spoons? They always ask. Of course, you can. I’m happy to make you happy. But it most likely won’t end well for you.

The cone will dissolve as you attempt to take turns taking bites with spoons. It will drip on you. Maybe all over you. And the table. And the floor. Ice cream is sticky. It's not fun to clean up. You may get irritated and feel the need to wash your hands.

Biting the cone back and forth probably won’t work out either. Because as it softens, you’ll have less and less control over the way it breaks apart… I have seen cones crumble in a mere bite and fall to the floor, all by accident.

So what should you do? Order a dish to share? Sure. Except then, you don’t get the true joy of eating ice cream in a cone—the way it should be eaten.

So here’s my proposition to all the ladies out there:

Order your own cone. If you’re on a date and don’t feel comfortable letting him pay, you can always buy it for yourself!

I’m all for being girly and feminine on occasion, but ice cream is not something you want to deprive yourself of. Life is too short. Assert your independence, and get yourself the dessert that you deserve.

Whatever man you’re with is going to thank you. Maybe not verbally, but mentally. He’s going to be grateful to you. Because if you get your own cone, you won’t have to share his. He’ll get to eat it himself.

He won’t have to hassle, taking turns, taking small licks and bites, trying hard not to eat the entire thing, and worrying about depriving you of an adequate amount of ice cream.

He won’t have to pause his eating to give you just a lick or just a bite. Because let's be honest, who ever wants just a lick or just a bite of ice cream?!

No guy will think any less of you for liking ice cream. In fact, if you love it as much as he does, or maybe even like the same flavor, you might have found something new to talk about.

You eating with him will help him to feel comfortable to eat, as opposed to worrying that you're not enjoying yourself if you don't get one.

You DO NOT need to feel guilty for getting a cone for yourself. You’re beautiful. One ice cream won’t break your diet, throw off your training regimen, or hurt your figure. You deserve a cone, a whole one, to yourself.

Eat your own cone. You can still be that adorable couple in an ice cream shop, even if you don’t share everything.

AND you're an amazing woman, treat yourself.

Enjoy your ice cream. (Unless you don't like ice cream. In that case, substitute a different dessert name into this article. 😋 )

Happy Summer.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
