Imagine: You meet a nice guy. He talks about Jesus, has his name inscribed on his Bible which he carries around in his backpack, and you two bond over your faith over coffee. He pays, holds the door open, and does all the gentlemen-y stuff you’ve ever dreamed of. He’s basically the perfect package. He has the faith, the kindness, you are able to get on the same type of spiritual level… Except for one little thing…

You aren’t physically attracted to him.

Let’s be honest, we’ve all been there and have had the same problem over and over. And we so badly want to make it work, but we just can’t. And that’s okay.

There are a lot of pressures to date and marry the first Christian you come across these days. People are meeting, dating, getting married, having kids…. And the attention lands on you when you haven’t done all of that. I see it a lot when friends get married or when I come to Thanksgiving without a significant other to talk about. Attending a Christian University on top of that doesn’t help either (Major Ring before Spring syndrome over at Grand Canyon University).

Time and time again I will see myself or a friend falling for a guy who loves Jesus, but we aren’t actually attracted to them. And it sucks because we want to. We want the fairy-tale happiness and dream wedding and love that the Bible speaks about (okay maybe it doesn’t mention the need for a dream wedding in there but we are girls and have it all planned out on our Pinterest Boards).

While it may seem superficial to care about the attractiveness of a person, it is true that everyone is attracted to something different. Some may like tall, dark, and handsome, while others may like beach blonde and long-haired guys. While personality is one of the key qualities in a person and therefore makes them more attractive, physical attraction is important too.

I was once asked out by a nice Christian guy and though we hit it off with some good conversation, discussions about Jesus, testimonies, life, etc. I was just not attracted to him. He was nice, kind, someone I would take home to meet my parents, and I wanted to like him. But I couldn't.

Through that process I learned something: Jesus is attractive. Like seriously attractive.

We love Jesus so much that when we see a glimpse of Him in anyone, we are instantly pulled toward their spirit. We naturally crave community surrounded by the Holy Spirit and are attracted by that nature. So it makes sense that when we see even a bit of Him within a boy, we zero in on them.

But if we aren’t attracted to them wholly, for every bump and bruise we learn and see, then are they really the one? Would God make man and woman be together if they are “eh” about it? I don’t think so.

“Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things.”

1 Corinthians 13:7

I believe that God has someone picked out for every one of us and it’s our choice whether we pursue what He has planned for us, or settle for “eh.” Our choice of free will lets us pick what we want, and while some people may settle for “eh,” I certainly don’t want to.

We will meet many Christian men in our lives, and love them, or try to, but don’t try to make something work, if your heart isn’t fully in it. Shoot for the kind of love that exists in the Disney Movies, and who knows, God may surprise you.

When you meet the one person, who you will spend your whole life with forever, you’ll know. And you’ll be attracted to the Jesus in them, their heart and soul, as well as their physical appearance.

For now, stop trying to make an “eh” work and trust in God’s timing. Just because it seems like Christian boys are on the rarity doesn’t mean it’s true. They are there, waiting for you. Just wait for God to push you two together.

God, you matchmaker, you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
