Being a freshman at IU South Bend, I've leaned a lot about the community here, like what goes on and how everything runs. From the positives and negatives, here's a few things that stick out the most for me.
1. All of the classes are small.
Expect some of your classes to only have 10 people and your biggest class to be, at most, 30 people. Smaller classes help build a stronger community with the classroom.
2. The fountains are smelly!
We all know that you have to hold your breath walking around random parts of the campus because of the smell.
3. Getting sick of eating subs all the time.
If you can't make it to the Grille in time for the 2:30 pm cut off and you're like the majority of college students that don't want to cook for themselves, Sub Connection starts to get really old. But, at least they have pizza!
4. Starbucks (We Proudly Serve Starbucks)
And of course, Starbucks is always there to save you. Unless, of course, you get stuck in the back of that horrible line between the 15-minute period that everyone else wants coffee, too.
5. There are squirrels everywhere!
They aren't even wild animals anymore... We might even be able to call them pets.
6. There's goose poop everywhere.
Geese poop isn't the only thing you track inside.
7. The SAC
When people only go to the games for the free pizza...well maybe to enjoy the game.
8. If you live in housing: Walking over the Bridge.
The moments in January/February when you feel as if your face is falling off because of the wind or when you have to dodge the continuous traffic of lawn care vehicles are the worst.
9. Parking sucks.
You can never find a parking spot.
10. You have to take Q110.
We are all required to take a research class.
11. We actually know people!
We're able to walk around campus and ACTUALLY know people.
