For those of you who have good taste in television and have binged watched Parks and Rec, Leslie Knope has most likely become your go-to inspiration on how to take on any problem. Her admirable and constant optimism, even during the worst situations, is honestly a gift I wish to possess. There are countless amounts of good times and bad times Leslie and her team have faced that have mainly resulted in success or heartfelt failure, but she, out of all of us, actually learns from her mistakes.
1. When Leslie did not get her chard on
In Season 6, Leslie has created a full on Local farmers market that increases small family-owned businesses and sells locally grown products. A chard stand catches everyones attention for having hired dancers with shirtless bodies gyrating to club music. Leslie, hating everything about the whole thing, persistently does all she can to shut it down for it’s obnoxious advertising and for the statement that chard is disgusting.
2. Her persistence in battling against obesity
Leslie attempts at putting a larger tax on sodas due to their new 512 ounce “child size” soda, referring to the size of small child.
“Our City Councilors have been enabling our obesity problem for too long - widening city sidewalks, strengthening city sidewalks, designating electric scooter lanes on city sidewalks - and I say it is high time we hitched up our size 54 pants and attacked this problem head-on. My solution is far simpler, and much less annoying, than diet and exercise (although, you should still do both of those things).” http://www.knope2012.com
3. Her flawless explanations to the media
Local Journalist, Shauna Malwae-Tweep, was there to capture Leslie's Bowling Night Campaign event for when she ran for city council. Leslie, being a beaming ball of sunshine, loves everyone and wants everyone to love her, but when someone shows no respect for her, even after a proper bowling competition, things spin out of control.
“You may have heard about the minor skirmish at a recent campaign event held at a local bowling alley. We would just like to clear things up and say that it was not a minor skirmish; it was really more of an impressive iron-fisted knockout, dealt by the hands of our very own campaign manager Ben Wyatt. The man he punched was visibly drunk and becoming very aggressive towards City Council candidate Leslie Knope, and Ben was awesome and took him down like he was a sack of potatoes and Ben was a guy who's awesome at punching out bags of potatoes. Everyone in the bowling alley was very invigorated by his showing of strength, and most of the ladies in attendance swooned. The campaign would like to formally commend his braveness.” http://www.knope2012.com
So well spoken and non-biased for the media. Just another reason she is the best.
4. When she shows her soft side
When Leslie campaigns against Bobbie Newport for city council, she takes the time out of her day to take a detour to his house, in her campaign bus of course, to check up on her adversary and make sure he is coping well with his father's sudden death. Though her naive little mind did not think his campaign manager would plan a stunt like so, Leslie's bus pulled in to Newport's driveway during his father's ceremony which naturally did not put her in the best light.
5. She is not afraid to raise her voice
When the National Parks Department decides they want Leslie for their team and to move on to bigger and better things than Pawnee, they take her to D.C. to give her the right idea of what she could be doing. When walking through a federal building she happens to bump into Michelle Obama and is formally introduced to her.
Hopefully my reasons for loving Leslie have you feeling the same way, or maybe they have inspired you to watch Parks and Rec and come up with your own reasons.
