Justice For All?

Not a Progression but a Regression

In light of Miss Clinton's new vice presidential candidate announced at the Democratic National Convention recently, I'd like to shed some light on the grave evil of Hilary Clinton's "Catholic" Vice Presidential nominee, Thomas Kaine's belief on repealing the Hyde Amendment.

The first matter of importance is knowing exactly what the Hyde amendment entails, passed in 1976 it was edited in 1977 to encompass the following:

"The first version of the Hyde Amendment passed under election-year pressure in 1976, only to be reopened the following year. In December 1977, after a months-long, paralyzing debate in Congress—during which the Senate sought to liberalize the Hyde Amendment to cover all "medically necessary" abortions, while the House tried to prohibit public funding for abortion in any circumstance—a compromise was reached that permitted the federal government to pay its share of the cost of abortions for women enrolled in Medicaid only in cases where their lives were threatened."

In summation the Hyde amendment protects the taxpayer from quite possibly unwillingly paying for the abortions of poor women.

The founder of the Hyde amendment, Representative Henry Hyde, a Republican of Illinois (who retired in 2006) was a pro-life man who wanted to outlaw abortion for all, however he saw the opportunity to withdraw funding of abortions for the poorest of the poor via medicaid. He saw it as a step in the right direction for life.

Fast forward to this very election year 2016 with our democratic candidate Hilary Clinton, Queen of Scandals and getting away with murder. Chooses a Catholic Vice Presidential candidate in a last ditch attempt to remain in the public eye of Christian "Never Trump" supporters. The only problem with that is Thomas Kaine is actually pro-choice and according to one of the five intrinsic evils that Catholics should vote against, promoting abortion is one of them. Mr. Kaine is blatantly pro-choice and continues to support "the fight for women's rights" by letting us as taxpayers pay for other women's abortions. Not Cool. Even Clinton supporters who supposedly fight for women's rights should be appalled because they lose potential members to the campaign every time a woman has an abortion.

Clinton and Kaine consider repealing the Hyde amendment a progression for women. But as a Catholic I cannot morally support a culture of death, and see this possible repeal as a regression and an attack on the ever shrinking religious freedom we have left.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
