I am a naive, college sophomore. I am not always right (although I like to pretend I am). I make mistakes, and that’s OK. I can promise you I have no insight on life, there is no guidebook. But in my short 19 years I can assure you I have one thing down pretty well.
Whether you’re young or old, male or female …
Just don’t settle.
Now this could mean a lot of different things to you. There’s a lot of meaning behind this one line, so I am going to discuss the three main points.
There is the … Average you.
There is so much ‘average’ out there, but what does that even mean, just average? To me it means, to settle for less than you’re capable of. I am one of those believers who believes that you were put here for a reason, whatever that maybe. Don’t be OK with just being OK. I know that sounds strange and misguided, but I promise that you have so much to live for, and being just average, is temporarily happiness.
Create the life, you want to live.
And live it. We are told at a young age that life is short, so why live it unhappy? Find your drive, find your passion and don’t ever let it go. IF someone doesn’t like your passions or you goals, they don’t deserve you.
There is the … Average relationship.
There are 7.4 billion people in the world. The person you are or aren’t dating right now could be your soul mate. BUT, if you don’t love absolutely love everything about them, their touch, their laugh, the way they chew, they are not for you. Of course, it’s impossible to not find a flaw in everyone, I know I have plenty. That’s the beauty in love, you fall in love with all the flaws. So again, I will say, STOP SETTLING FOR AVERAGE RELATIONSHIPS.
I truly believe that everyone has a spark, it just takes the right person to ignite that spark. Don’t settle for someone who doesn’t ignite the best you.
Being alone is hard, but settling for a lifetime of un-passionate love, is harder.
There is the… Average career.
Love what you do, do what you love. Life is way too short to not be happy. Find something you love, and do it, well. I had a college professor say, the best way to learn something is to fall in love with it, because when you love something, you have the drive to know everything about it. Inside and out. So whatever you end up doing, make sure you love it, because you’ll always crave to know more, he said
“It’s similar to an addiction, you can put it down, but you’ll always pick it back up at the end of the day.”
So find out what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.
So I know this has been one of my cheesier posts, but remember you could settle for average, or comfortable but your life will mean much more to you in the end game if you create it and shape it the way you want it. You only get one, so make it worth it.
