YOU DO YOU, HONEY!

It's Your Life

What is the purpose of this article? You might ask. Well the purpose is to teach people to do what makes them really freakin’ happy. We all get so caught up in getting the approval of other people that we forget that our happiness actually means something. So, it is time for you to do you, honey!

When my family found out I had chosen Mississippi State as my school, no one supported me. They were all dead set on me going to a smaller college, and while that college is a wonderful school I did not apply there for a reason. God simply did not call me to go to that school, he called me to go to State. No, growing up I did not want to go to MSU. I actually spent over a year arguing God about it. It was hard for my family to accept that, just like it is still hard for my family to accept the fact that I will be going to medical school to become a Psychiatrist. The hardest part of all of this is I try really hard to make every single person in my family happy, so I look into every school and every single occupation they think would be better for me. I always feel like I am failing them because the path God has chosen for me is not the path they want me to be on. Don’t get me wrong, my family loves Jesus but that doesn’t mean they agree with everything. They think that I could be more successful at another school or with another job and that is okay. What isn’t okay is that I let their opinions become more important than God’s plan for me. I have to constantly remind myself to remain faithful to Christ because His plan is greater.

With that being said it is time for you to shape up and do you. God’s plan for me makes me SO happy. I look forward to my years at Mississippi State and my time in medical school because I know that I will be following the will of God. At first it wasn’t easy going against my family’s plan for me, but now that I am following the plan of the Lord my life is easier and I have been able to find more joy. So take it from the biggest people pleaser on the block, YOU DO YOU, HONEY! Never stop dreaming and NEVER let people tell you that you can’t do what you want to do. It is possible babe and you are worth it! Even if it wasn't always your plan to start with, God's plan is always greater and you just have to follow it. Trust that He knows what is best for your life, because He does. He's kind of a pro at what He does if we're being honest, so chill out and do you. Once you realize that His plan is good then it'll become your dream and trust me dreams DO come true.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
