When I was a little girl, I pictured my husband tall, intelligent, handsome and sweet. I imagined I would meet him sometime in college and we would live happily ever after obtaining successful jobs and beautiful children.
When I arrived at college, the seemingly unintelligent boys caused all hopes of this to be lost. From the beginning of orientation through the end of the first semester, I had met many guys who I became not only best friends with, but a little more than that. I was happy but I constantly felt used and like I meant nothing to any of these guys.
I was betrayed by many and I finally decided to give up the party scene which was causing me to find myself in situations with I did not want to be in. Needless to say, by the end of my first semester I gave up on this dream of finding the one during college because of the hurt and anxiety I went through. I even recall telling my best friend that I was “absolutely done and forever giving up on the male population”.
Just days later, this same best friend introduced me to a guy friend she had made the previous semester. From this moment on, something clicked between us and even though I said I was fed up with college boys, I perused this one because it just felt right. He was not just some average Joe. He was tall, wore glasses, had great hair, a beautiful sense of humor and never ending intelligence. He was perfect and in fact still is.
Our simple friendship lasted about a day because we ended up expressing how we felt towards each other. We started seeing each other the next day and started to date the day after Valentine’s Day which was about a little over a month after meeting. I called the beginning of our friendship simple because compared to how it is today, it seems like nothing. This boy is now my best friend and never leaves my side. I absolutely love it.
I have never been treated like a princess before in my life until I met this amazing man. From extravagant dates into the city of Philadelphia to watching Game of Throne’s all night while we’re supposed to be studying for finals, he treats me like the most special person in the world. I’m not sure how to thank him some days and most days I feel like I’m not doing enough.
I have no idea whether or not he came to me because I stopped looking for him. But if there’s one thing I know for sure though, it’s that as young a girl it’s ok to lose all hope for the young male population. It could be the reason as to why and how we know in our hear when he is truly “the one”. Maybe giving up for a bit is ok, but we have to hold on tight and cherish "the one" once he comes because others are looking for him too.
