What comes to your mind when you think of fashion? Is it glamour? Fancy galas? Or just looking good? Reading this, I'm sure that you've read, seen, or encountered numerous fashion blogs, magazines, billboards, and ads showcasing the idealized "glamorous life" of fashion. I'm here to tell you fashion is more than just a visual and tactile display.
Fashion is an art. It resembles what you wear and how you present yourself to others. Most of all, it's about respecting yourself and your body. It's like to the saying, "treat those like how you would like to be treated." Well the fashion mirroring of that saying is, "Adorn yourself with rich clothing, wisdom, and confidence" (Proverbs 31:25).
They say the most prestigious, wealthy, and naturally-born talent (i.e. "the big people") are the ones whom make it to the top. I say screw 'em. Standing today as a last semester fashion student and former art school kid, I have made the fashion week cut for the second time in the past two years. Feeling like a big shot yet? It's slowly sinking in. Am I speechless? You bet I am.
Being an art major, in general, is far from easy. Anyone in, or currently pursuing, the creative field (photography, graphic design, film, music, etc.) can agree and acknowledge the fact that it takes numerous hours, time, and patience to perfect your craft. Additionally, it's a step-by-step process of constant breakdowns, blood, sweat, and tears to reach the top of the pyramid. Sometimes, the craziness and fast-paced environment can get incredibly overwhelming that we tend to forget to breathe and see the world outside of the bubble we are in.
Welcome to the world of fashion.
You see that finished glamorous store product in the windows? Thank the artists, designers, art directors, workers, and big people for the invested hours, time, and hard work in showcasing their vision to the public. Without their help, we wouldn't have the aesthetics of visual store displays.
A two-time fashion week participant, I cal tell you fashion is much more than just the cliched and tactile display you see everyday. It's about showcasing what you are made of and presenting yourself in the best way possible. Fashion is more than an art. It's a lifestyle.
