From an early age we have all always been told everything will be okay no matter what happens. When we were young and would fall down on the playground our parents were always there to pick us back up, brush us off and tell us we would be okay. When we had a bad day at school, got a bad grade on a test, or got our feelings hurt by a friend or sibling we were told, "It will be okay," As we grew into teenagers and relationships came into the picture or high school drama got to us we began to realize that we were coming into a world where for the first time in our lives we had reached a point where when things went wrong they were not always supposed to be okay. However, once we reach this point in our lives we have to see the truth, and that is that it is perfectly okay to not be "okay."
You don't have to smile. You don't have to put on a face and pretend that nothing is wrong even when your world is crashing down. When something happens you don't have to necessarily be back to your "old-self" soon after. Sometimes you don't need to move on right away. Sometimes all you need to do is scream at the top of your lungs, have a complete breakdown and fall apart. The easiest way to pick yourself back up is beginning with broken pieces. When you think your life is in shambles doesn't mean you give up. It is okay not to have your life together right now. It is okay to cry. It is okay if every day is not a "good day." Just do what you have to do to get through the day. You have more good days to come. For now it is okay to take satisfaction in an "okay day." You have your future, you have time and you have all the world before you.
You need to take time to heal. Sometimes the best time to discover grace is in the times of sorrow. Use this healing period to appreciate your sadness. Use this as a way to find out what makes you truly happy in your life, and learn to move through it so that you can move on from it. You do not always have to pretend to be strong. Don't rush the healing process. There is no need to constantly pretend that you are okay. Take all the time you need.
Share your thoughts and feelings with others. By self accepting that you are not okay you are on the track to personal healing, but sometimes in order to truly understand that it is okay not to be okay you must share your sorrows with others. Sometimes it helps you to understand you really aren't okay by talking about it with others. The best support and love anyone can get is from those around them. The people who you are closest to, those who do not just tell you, "It'll be okay" and move on, the friends who are constantly checking in on your with a phone call or making a stop by your house just to bring you something that made them think of you are the type pf people worth keeping around. When you find people in your life who show you unconditional love and support no matter what never let them go. I am thankful to have those people in my own life.
Do what makes you happy. It is okay not to be okay, but it is not okay not to seek out your happiness. You need to take a step back, breathe, trust in yourself and see where life takes you. Seek out what genuinely makes you happy. Whether it is reading a book on a rainy day, or going for a run around the block- find what makes you feel good about your life, and you will see an increase in your overall life satisfaction.
Make a plan for your future happiness. Making a plan for the future is sometimes the best stepping stone to being "OK." You do not have to have your entire life mapped out right now. It is okay not to know where you will be five years from now, but it is not okay not to work towards everything you want in your life.
It will be okay in the end. If it is not okay right now, then it isn't the end. So whatever life throws at you- a bad breakup, family problems, health issues, struggles in school or even your social life just remember to keep your head up and face the challenges. Embrace the difficulties which arise in your life, and accept that to overcome those. It is absolutely okay not to be okay.
