This is something that would only happen in our wildest dreams. We had always hoped, prayed, and said, “There’s always next year!” Never did we think that it would finally happen until this year and we were all still believing we were in some kind of dream... After 108 years we finally did it. WE won the World Series... Yes, I said “WE.”
The Chicago Cubs are not just some baseball team that you go to watch on hot spring and summer day to ‘pass the time’. It is so much bigger than that. So much bigger than all of us. It is a passion, a love, a state of mind, a historical and magical place. It is a FAMILY.
This family is made up of so many different elements and people that make the Cubbies who and what they are. It all started with the fans and the passion and love they have for this team; their family. To be a cubs fan means many many different things. They are going to be optimistic and supportive no matter what the outcome. They do not go to the games to watch the team win they go for the experience and the feeling of closeness they get when they walk into that stadium. (Even though wins are very welcomed in Wrigleyville) The fans are die hard and would do anything for anyone wearing that shirt. They know the players and talk about them like they have been best friends since the day they were born. The fans keep the traditions and history alive. Wrigley Field is packed to its fullest no matter the weather or the record. You grow up being a cubs fan, raised hearing about them, wearing the colors, and learning the best traditions in baseball. These fans are so emotionally, physically, and mentally invested in this “team” that we call our family. They are into every game from the moment the first pitch is thrown to that final out. “Go Cubs Go” and their seventh inning stretch “Take me out to the ballgame” is unlike any other. This bond is passionate and it goes both ways. The fans to the players and staff and the players and staff to the fans.
Today is our day. #FlyTheW

Now, if you watched that post game you would know that every player and every staff member of that organization that spoke had one thing in common. They all called this amazing organization and its fans a family. They repeated over and over that they could not have accomplished this goal without the fans. Theo Epstein, when getting interviewed by Bill Murry after the game said this, “I just wanted to thank everyone who’s ever put on a Cubs uniform and everyone who has ever rooted for the Cubs; it has been 108 years of love, support, and patience waiting for a team like this to make it happen on a night like this. You guys are all world champions tonight and I couldn’t be happier for you.” They also talked about how close the players and staff are because of the owner. We were told on the postgame show by Theo Epstein that Tom Ricketts, the owner of the Chicago Cubs, paid to have all 450 staff members and their wives from the Cubs organization flown out to Cleveland for games 6 and 7. Theo also talked about how involved and genuine Tom Ricketts is and how comfortable he makes all of the staff members and their families making them all feel like family.
I feel like I am a part of this amazing family and tradition that the Cubs so incredibly uphold. My mom taught me about this incredible tradition and raised me to be a Cubs fan from the moment I was born. I am getting to experience this amazing point in history all because of her and I could not be more thankful. The moment we won the game she looked at me and said “You have grown up liking a little team because of me…Thank you!” The look she had in her eyes the moment we won is what being a part of this Cubs family is all about. It is about our crazy superstitions that we can only be in a certain place to watch the game or wearing a certain outfit while sitting in the same spot we did last time. It is about our love for the game of baseball and not only for baseball but for the team we call our family. It is about all the traditions we have kept over the decades and will still uphold forever more. It is about the passion we have for everything the Cubs stand for. It is about the support we give the players, “It’s Gonna Happen!!”… Well, it did happen. It’s the look my mom had in her eyes when WE won the World Series after 108 years of waiting. It’s what being a Family is all about and we are lucky enough to be a part of the best one in the entire world
“Go, Cubs, Go
Go, Cubs, Go
Hey, Chicago what do you say, the Cubs are gonna win today…"
