As a woman, I was incredibly offended by the statements made by Donald Trump in the video that was leaked of him recently (if you’ve been living under a rock and haven't seen it, find a link here). Although I am aware that plenty of men do think like this, and probably talk like this in normal “locker room” settings, that isn't something I would like to hear from any man, but especially not a presidential candidate. However, in his defense, that video was recorded years ago, and I would hope that many people would give him the benefit of the doubt. Donald Trump has put his foot in his mouth almost as much as Kanye West, but by looking at the big picture, I think that between him and Hillary Clinton, Trump is the lesser of two evils.
One reason why Trump is not nearly as vile as many media outlets make him out to has to do with the recently emerged proof that Jessica Leed, a woman who claimed Trump sexually assaulted her on a plane 30 years ago, lied. Anthony Gilberthorpe was on the plane when Leed claims the assault occurred. According to his recollection, Trump is innocent. In fact, according to his story, Leed was the one making passes at Mr. Trump. Perhaps Leed didn't think a witness to what really happened would actually step up and challenge her claims, but regardless, one can’t help but question why she waited 30 years to emerge with such a tall tale. Also, does anyone wonder where all the witnesses willing to speak in Bill Clinton's benefit are?
Another reason why Trump should be given more credit than he has been in recent reports is the fact that he says he will not accept the $400,00/year salary that comes with being Commander-in-Chief of the United States. This screams volumes. It says that he is more interested in changing things in this country than in the money that comes with it. He’s fed up with the direction this country is headed. Take the health care for veterans, for example. Veterans have died waiting on the VA to follow through with the proper healthcare. Yet, illegals are coming here and getting better benefits than the people who gave years of their lives to serve the U.S.? That is so messed up. He also funded his own campaign. He does not owe a dime to anyone. Mrs. Clinton, however, has accepted thousands of dollars from foreign donors. So if she is elected, how many favors does she owe to people, and to what extent?
It seems that the media is hyper focusing on the things Mr. Trump said 30 years ago that do not affect the state of the country but ignoring the questionable decisions Mrs. Clinton have made in recent years that very much has affected the country (Benghazi, for example). So before anyone totally writes off Trump as a potential leader of the Free World, let's make sure we get the facts right.
