The legalization of marijuana in the United States has been an on going controversial topic of discussion for so many years. At the height of the 60's and 70's, marijuana started to gain most of its popularity amongst the "flower children" or hippies. A lot of the youth started getting access to it and eventually, it became recreationally used nationwide. It was used as a way to relax and unwind in the midst of all the chaos going on, ergo the Vietnam War. Many young people then, and even now use it to connect with the world because it elevates the mind, resulting in more philosophical and spiritual thinking. It's an overall happy and harmless drug, yet many believe it is a gateway drug to heavier drugs, and that it turns many into rebels. But, should it be legalized, or are there more harms than benefits to it? Let's see...
Marijuana is safer than most legalized substances
Ever since the Controlled Substances Act in 1970, marijuana has been recalled as a schedule 1 drug, in the same category as LSD, heroin, and ecstasy as well as other heavy drugs. This actually doesn't make much logical sense considering the fact that there has never been any reported deaths from the use of this drug. There has been more deaths concerning alcohol and even cigarettes, which includes harm to oneself as well as to others. Although it is much safer, there is still this correlation with danger and the stoner culture, which makes the government have a fear in legalizing it.
It helps with psychological and physical instability
Marijuana has been very popular in helping people cope with many things. Best exemplified is insomnia, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, decreasing cancerous tumors, and so much more. Pot has been very popular with making one happy due to the high, as well as helping people who have lost their appetite eat again. It helps those insomniacs out there relax and finally go to sleep with their mind at ease, and best of all, THC has been known to slow the growth of cancerous cells, reduce spread of some forms of cancer, and "numb" the pain that cancer patients so often suffer from.
It connects one with the world
It stimulates ones brain. It enhances creativity. It connects people. Marijuana is probably the most popular illegal drug that brings people together in the best way. Unlike many other illegal drugs, marijuana does the opposite of stir up rage and anger, because it actually indirectly promotes peace and love and all the other good things the world has to offer. When people light one up, they feel an immense amount of happiness and love for one another including themselves. It's an overall feel good drug. It connects one with the world in the sense that there are a lot of more realizations about your surroundings whilst experiencing the high. Many get epiphanies about what's important and what's not, and many end up worrying less about what doesn't matter. It boosts creativity that sometimes is hidden, by the heavy use of art, like painting, writing and music, that people in society have just been brushing off lately. It revives culture and brings people alive to get lost in that creativity, resulting in more open mindedness. On top of that, marijuana is like that one superpower in the sense that so many people get a clear vision of the idocracy and cheap moralism that really goes on in the world around them.
See, marijuana ain't so bad! All the myths about stoners being lazy and unproductive is very inaccurate. There are so many successful writers, artists, musicians, cooks, etc who rely on marijuana for their own personal benefits. And, keep in mind that it's only a gateway drug to the fridge, and love :).
Just think, if the whole world smoked a joint at the same time...there would be world peace.
