I open my planner and find a long list of tedious tasks I have to complete. Then, I make time for my friends and family. After that, I do other chores I need to get done one way or another. Once I've tired myself out, I hit the shower and go to sleep. It is so easy to get caught up in the crazy lives we all live. With school, work, family, and relationships, 24 hours seem to go by like 60 seconds. Additionally, sometimes we feel that we need to put these important things before ourselves, and that is a mistake!
I completely agree that schoolwork, jobs, and relationships are the top most important things in life. The number one most important, however, is you. Before you can tend to work and helping out and pleasing others, you must make sure you are content. All my life I felt that I needed to make others happy before myself. Seeing my friends and family happy delighted me, but it wasn't the same as doing something for myself personally. It is okay to say no! People pleasers are afraid of ever speaking that word. If a friend asks you for a huge favor, and you've already clocked out for the day, it is completely okay to politely tell them no. It may be hard to reject the invite to go out on a Friday night, but there's always next Friday. If you've had a long week, spend your night solo and have your special alone time.
Not only that, but also overworking yourself in terms of homework, a job, and obligatory duties put us in the way of creating time for ourselves. I love to be a hard worker and get ahead. Completing my to-do list comforts me, but I go through hell to complete it. I truly understand how vital schoolwork and careers are. This is our future, and it is nothing to mess around with because we want to be successful. With that being said, we need to take a break every once in a while. If you have been typing your life away for a 10-page paper for hours, it is okay to step away for 30 minutes and rest, go for a walk, or indulge in some ice cream. I personally like to take 20 minutes power naps (that sometimes turn into hour naps). Here are 50 ways to take a break.
Everyone has their happy place, but don't fulfill it enough. Making sure you are content and putting yourself first is key in every other aspect of your life flowing smoothly. When you are one with yourself, your friends and family will be happy, and your workload will feel a little lighter. Stay positive and put yourself first!
