During your college years, it's easy to get very caught up with the need to be busy every single second of the day. From spending time with friends to going to class, many activities involve other people. While spending time with others is important, I believe that it's just as important to spend time with yourself.
Zero distractions
In today's world, there are a billion distractions that could make anyone a little stressed. The temptation to constantly check social media is always there, and sometimes our to-do lists can seem like they're miles long. This is part of what makes taking time by yourself away from these distractions even more important. Turning off the phone and looking at what's right in front of you is so helpful in this day in age.
Put yourself in the middle of nature
One of the best places to reflect on what's going on in your life is in nature. There's something calming about observing the little things around you. Nature can provide the perfect backdrop for thinking about the important things in life. Finding your own special place can be one of the best things ever, whether it's a little, secluded beach or in the middle of a forest.
Journaling can be life changing
Some people find that a great way to gather your thoughts into one place is through journaling. When there's something in your life that's causing you a lot of stress, it can all seem like a jumble of words up in your head sometimes. Journaling can be healing because it takes all of that stress out of your head and onto paper.
There are no outside opinions to sway your decisions
You know yourself better than anyone else, and whenever you have to make an important decision, one of the best people to ask about what you should do is yourself. If you're getting mixed opinions about whether or not you should make that big life change, during your alone time is a good time to take all of those opinions into account. Alone time will also help lead you to making a decision that you feel is the right one.
Spending time with yourself isn't exactly an easy thing to do. Because we're so busy all the time, it can be hard or nearly impossible to fit in your schedule. If we're being honest, sometimes it's not the first thing we naturally want to do either. It may be a challenge, but the effects of spending time to care about your own self can only be positive. I want to encourage you all to take the challenge. Find your special spot, journal, and put yourself in a no distraction zone. You may be surprised how great it can make you feel!
