Immigrants in American

Immigrants in American

Immigrant is a word that is all too familiar to me. My family is a melting pot built up upon Cuban, Hungarian, Cherokee Indian, and White ancestral backgrounds. When I hear politicians and people in general denounce immigrants, I find myself in awe due to the fact that everyone in this country is or based upon a family member who is an immigrant.

Immigrants are often frowned upon due to reasons such as, "stealing jobs" or "living off the system", but how is someone "stealing" a job if we aren't willing to do it? How are they "living" off a system when some of us live off the so called "system"? It amazes me that instead of asking questions and learning the back stories of the immigrants here, we instead assume and push them away from mind. This is America. This is the place where all kinds of backgrounds come to merge and form to become one. Who are we if we can not accept those who were once like our ancestors?

Donald Trump is quoted about immigrants saying, "They have to go." Well sir, if immigrants have to go, then I will be seeing you on the boat because you sir are an immigrant. Everyone who is not a full blooded American Indian is technically an immigrant, due to the fact that we all have backgrounds based in another country. Another unintelligent fight surrounding immigrants is the idea that immigrants have sparked a high crime rate. I do not believe this to be true one bit. Where are the numbers? Where is the proof?

It's hard to believe the ignorance that surrounds this topic is unbelievable. How can we expect to know what we are talking about when we don't even know half of what surrounds this bit? Before we open our mouths to judge we must look to rational thinking and proof before pointing fingers at someone or something we know absolutely nothing about. How can we expect to live in peace when we ourselves can't even give peace?

As part of the future generation, I hope the children and young adults that are growing with the resistance to welcome with open arms, choose to spread a different belief of heart warming gestures and understanding. But before we can move into a more understanding future, we must identify the mistake that is at hand which is miscommunication.

In everyday life, we are all put into situations due to miscommunication. In order to end the cycle and learn from this mistake, we need to learn how to listen more and talk less. Sometimes it is best to turn a cheek then it is to open one. Listen so that maybe we can move forward to a brighter future. Listen.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
