If You're Reading This, You Can Make It Through

"Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future." John F. Kennedy

If you’re reading this, maybe you just got out of a long relationship or you found out you’re doing poorly in a class or you're just in a low place in your life. Maybe you’ve had to make decisions that made you cringe because of the thought of change or maybe you just don’t even know what you want to do anymore.

I used to be the person who genuinely felt like I wasn’t destined for much. Every day was the same. My drive and passion was at a stand-still. I couldn’t have cared less about my grades and what my future held.

My ex-boyfriend ended our 3-year relationship and left me for the girl he told me not to worry about. I learned I had to leave all my sorority sisters behind to transfer to a new school. It felt like my world was crumbling in. I felt more alone than ever. Everyone tried to tell me everything was going to be okay, but the repetitiveness of a bland statement only made me feel numb.

How do you know when things are going to be okay? Who has the right to tell you that everything is going to be okay? Even though you know in that very moment that nothing is okay.

Well, I knew that despite all the bad stuff that maybe just maybe something good would come out of it eventually. That's when I knew I had to make a change.

Change is one of the scariest things ever, but it's also a gift.

Finding yourself at such a young age is a grueling and challenge-filled process. It took me months to gather up the courage to change my major while transferring to a new college, let alone move to a different city. I also found out that in the end, being single has probably been one of the biggest blessings for me.

I took risks. I got hurt. I overcame obstacles. I faced hardships; but in the end, I have never been happier all because I embraced the changes in my life.

You. Can. Do. It.

To get where you want to be will take a lot of sacrifice and courage, but I don’t even think it does it justice when I tell you it’s so incredibly worth it. I accepted an amazing internship that has opened my eyes to a passion I didn’t even know I had. I took a risk and found out that I finally know what I want to pursue as a career.

You may feel like a deer caught in headlights and don’t think you’re going to make it through, but I promise you you’re just at the beginning. Don’t just wait around for change to happen; make the impossible decisions that could change your life for the better and never take anything for granted. I promise you that you are worthy of whatever you set your mind to.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
