I am a firm believer in the "if you cant tone it, tan it" way of life. I actually love the gym, but I don't have the time or energy to fit a workout into my busy schedule. And if I did, I'm not consistent enough to truly tone anything... So I tan it. Studies have shown that people frequently rate tan people as more attractive than pasty people because they look healthy and flushed. Having a tan can also make you appear thinner or more fit, so if there is one spot that you just can’t seem to tone with workouts, tanning could be a good alternative.
Of course I know tanning causes skin cancer, but I didn't specify how you should "tan it". Everyone's first thought is always tanning beds, but did you know there are safer alternatives for sunless tanning that could even be quicker and easier? Here are 3 SAFE Tanning methods to make your favorite white shorts look flawless on you this summer!
1. Self-Tanners:
Self-tanning moisturizers are perfect for beginning tanners to achieve just a hint of color. They gradually begin to build in color with daily use and have less concentration of dihydroxyacetone (DHA), which is what turns your skin darker. (I swear by Jergens Natural Glow for $8.99 at Walmart). Tanning towelettes are actually a real thing!!! They are a great way to get color if you’re on the go. They are presoaked in self-tanner and only need to be swiped across your skin to get the tan you desire. It’s hard to overdo your tan by using these handy towelettes.
2. Spray Tans:
3. Natural Sunlight:
Just being out in the natural sunlight is a healthy alternative to the tanning bed, as long as you don’t abuse it. Sunshine still emits UV rays but much less than you would receive in a tanning bed. It’s the best way to get vitamin D, which has been shown to help with various types of cancer as well as kidney and heart disease. Be sure to use a good amount of sunscreen if you choose to lie out. It’s recommended to put on the equivalent of a shot glass worth of sunscreen on the exposed areas of your body and the SPF should be at least 15 or higher for the right amount of protection. Also, make sure to keep reapplying your sunscreen every two hours or after swimming and excessive sweating.
So, buy those white shorts, or that strapless sun dress. Get a little "glow" on your skin and flaunt it this summer. Its okay if you can't tone it, you can always tan it! Have a fanTANstic summer!
