If March Madness Were Like College

Making decisions as a college student is hard, right?

It's that time a year again: Home of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. Regardless if you follow college basketball or not, you are probably filling out a bracket anyway. There's just something about a bracket that intrigues us. You have no idea what's going to happen. All you can do is hope. College is kind of the same way in terms of getting things done. So my question is: If college students made their decisions bracket style, what would happen?

There's only one way to find out!

I took the liberty of creating somewhat of a bracket like such would look like. Picture this bracket making your decisions on how to spend a Tuesday night.

One Netflix vs. 16 Dropping out of School Because You have a Test Tomorrow

We've all had that thought of dropping out of school because we don't want to study or do work, but it's not a serious thought. Anyway, Netflix exists, so we can keep our sanity. A 16 seed has not beaten a one yet, and that will still be the case.

Winner: Netlix

Eight Workout vs. Nine Go get Food

Now this one is a toss up, but everybody knows they should workout even if they don't. So for the time being, we can eat later.

Winner: Workout

Five Homework vs. 12 Look for Jobs

We all need jobs, we are all broke, but it's not like all the jobs will disappear if we don't apply this very second. Not to mention, in our hearts we know we should be doing homework anyway.

Winner: Homework

Four Social Media vs. 13 Read a Book

Whether it's Twitter, Facebook, or Snapchat, we all have some type of social media-related addiction. We can read those new tweets anyway, so what's the real need for a book.

Winner: Social Media

Six Study vs. 11 Binge-surf YouTube

UPSET ALERT

Let's be honest, studying just results in surfing YouTube anyway, so why even fight it?

Winner: Binge-surf YouTube

Three Sleep vs. 14 Drink

Studying is hard. Sometimes we think that going out drinking and forgetting about it will make life easier, but then we remember it's Tuesday night, that's a bad decision, and we should probably study anyway. So we compromise with a nap.

Winner: Sleep

Seven Video Games vs 10 Laundry

UPSET ALERT

This one is a pretty hard one to call. Video games are fun, but in the end, we all need to do laundry. It may take awhile because some great person took up all three washers, but it'll get done.

Winner: Laundry

Two Hang Out with Friends vs. 15 Clean your Room

This one is pretty easy. One option is fun, and the other is boring and not urgent. So as long as you aren't Danny Tanner, this is a pretty easy one to call.

Winner: Hang out with friends

So we have our Elite Eight all set. Has your bracket been busted yet?

One Netflix vs. Eight Workout

Working out puts up a fight, but it can't just beat the power of the powerhouse Netflix.

Winner: Netflix

Four Social Media vs. Five Homework

This is hard one and will probably go into overtime. Homework in the end has to be completed and edges out social media in a classic.

Three Sleep vs. 11 Binge-surf YouTube

UPSET ALERT

You try to nap, but you toss and turn and don't know what to do with yourself. This leads to result back to your roots and turn to good ol' reliable YouTube.

Winner: Binge-surf YouTube

Two Hang Out with Friends vs. 10 Laundry

This is the biggest win of the whole tournament. There's nobody that would rather do laundry than be with their friends.

Winner: Hang out with Friends

We have our Final Four!

One Netflix vs. 11 Binge-surf YouTube

Both of these things involve being unproductive. So if you're going to be unproductive, you might as well do it in the best way possible.

Winner: Netflix

Two Hang Out with Friends vs. Five Homework

UPSET ALERT

Friends will always be there, but homework has a due date.

Winner: Homework

Championship Game!

One Netflix vs. Five Homework

This is what it always seems to come down to. Homework is really seasoned—it's been to the big dance many times—but it's just not enough to beat those Freshman hotshots, Netflix.

Winner: Netflix

It's not like homework isn't going to get done. We just don't do it until we look at the clock four hours into our Netflix marathon realizing it's been four hours.

Moral of the story: Netflix is a different type of creature. It's nothing like we've ever seen before. It's too big, too strong, and cannot be tamed.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
