Everyone has two images of themselves in their mind: who they are now and who they wish they were. Becoming that person seems impossible, no matter how much you try and give up. The cycle of wishing continues, and it won't stop until you decide to make it. Here are a few steps to get you there!
Make a list of concrete goals.
Maybe you want to be a sports know-it-all or wine aficionado. Imagine your ideal you and write down the traits that person has. How can you get those traits?
Break them into short term goals.
If you want to become more knowledgeable about a topic, chances are there's a 'for dummies' book about it. Get one! Or if you want to learn a skill, like playing a guitar, find steps: chords to tunes to songs.
Find something to do every day that makes those goals more achievable.
"Do something today that your future self will thank you for." Read a chapter of your 'for dummies' book before bed. Learn a chord a day. Participate in relevant 30-day challenges. Go for a walk every day. It takes 21 days for something to become a habit, so if you make small steps every day, you'll find yourself getting closer to your goals before you know it.
Dress for the person you want to be.
You've probably heard the saying, "Dress for the job you want to have". This applies to every aspect of your life. If you want to be known for your style, save up and get (or make!) the pieces you admire. If your goal is to be more creative, dress like an artist, dancer, writer! If you see inspiration when you look in the mirror, you'll start to inspire yourself and see that you can be the person you've wanted to be.
Be that person.
The only thing stopping you from becoming who you want to be is you. Stop getting in your own way and act! Make the changes you've always wanted and get on your way to a happier you.
As 2016 starts, it's the perfect opportunity to reinvent yourself. So set those resolutions and stick to them! You'll thank yourself by the time 2017 rolls around.
