Sometimes relaxation doesn't have to be a 14-hour drive or plane ticket somewhere. It can be found right in your backyard.
A vacation is a trip where you don't have a care in the world. You have your own schedule, zero responsibilities and plenty of time to be inspired and recharged before you have to head back to the real world.
A staycation is defined as a vacation in one's home country rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions. Of that, I am an expert.
Getting my taste of staycations from an early age, I've come to realize how amazing they are. They're budget friendly, time saving and you can still experience the full getaway experience that we all deserve; you just have to be creative.
We all need more vacations, more time to take care of ourselves and enjoy life as it should be. Here's how to make your staycation the best it can be:
It's All About Mindset
Happiness is a state of mind. Regardless of your location, staying in the same place can be a lot more fun than you can think. Have you ever been a tourist in your hometown? This is your chance. Take advantage of local flea markets, check out the new exhibit at the museum or explore the nature parks in your area. You'll discover hidden treasures and newfound appreciation for the things around you.
Two Is Better Than One
Bring a friend! While solo trips are needed once in a while, staycations are best when shared. Go out to dinner and catch up with old friends, there's sure to be plenty to discuss over the last couple of months. With busy schedules, taking the time to mend or bond with old friendships can make them even stronger near the end of the break.
Plan Accordingly
Time flies when you're having fun. Look at your calendar and divide time up for what you want to do. A vacation means you have no commitments and a staycation is no different. Clear your calendar for a series of days where you can enjoy your own time either with friends family, or by yourself. The biggest part of a staycation is treating it like your number one priority, and that's how it should be.
Staycations can turn a weekend or week into a memorable time and be the perfect break from a busy schedule. Self care is always important to practice and this is the best time to do it. Sit back and relax, sometimes we all need to pause and reflect a little. You'll be happy you did.
