How To Overcome A Challenge

"Focused will is incredible. If you have a dream and you don't give up no matter what obstacles come up, then life's problems will fall away and you will get what you want. It happens. It works." –Yanni

How To Overcome A Challenge

Most of the time I write about weird or difficult situations that we go through, and this time is not the exception. However, this is a very special article for me because it might be my last one. Also, the message of this article portrays a situation that right now I am experiencing, which is not very pleasant, but I know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. So, here are some thoughts about it.

As we go in life, we often find stones in our way, which are challenges that can change our lives forever. A simple decision you make can change the course of your life in just a second. Sometimes life can be running smooth, and all of a sudden, you find yourself in a situation asking yourself: What just happened? How did I get here? What did I do wrong? Is it my fault?

First of all, if you are in a difficult situation, you should never allow yourself to say..."I have no control over it." By saying this you make yourself feel weak, useless, and powerless--that is not the case. What we should do is think positive--look beyond the horizon--and believe that we can overcome any challenge; that we have the strength to fight for what we want. By thinking this way, we certainly CAN do anything we set our mind to.

I know for sure that everyone overcomes challenges in different ways. Some walk though them with curiosity, excitement, energy, and pride. They are brave enough to face any obstacle they might encounter and see this as an opportunity to gain some knowledge. Others--including me--just want to get over it. We just do not want to waste time and energy in something that seems impossible or will not go our way. We just like to stay in a comfortable situation--play it safe--wondering what could have happened if we just...did something. This is not an easy position or place to be in because when feelings of fear, mediocrity, and resignation take over you--that is when you may have lost the battle.

You should never settle for less than what you deserve. You should always fight for what is fair and for what you want. You should never allow someone to tell you that you are not good enough or that you should quit; instead, you should prove them wrong and show them what you are really capable of.

You must remember that if you work hard and are determined, you will achieve anything. It is important to build some courage and develop a thick skin to not let little things get to you. Additionally, you need to keep your head up and stand up for yourself. You need to believe in yourself--you GOT this! If you make a mistake admit it, try to fix it, and learn from it.

As cliché as it may sound...nobody is perfect. By making mistakes and practicing you will unveil the true talents you were given and find the confidence that you need to succeed. Don't forget to be humble and grateful of what you have. Don't stop dreaming, live to your fullest, and always strive to give your best.

Something that scares us--especially me--is failure. I constantly have to say to myself that sometimes you need to fail to become stronger. Sometimes we have to fail in order to become wiser. Moreover, a phrase that has stayed with me is that if you fall you should not fall backwards...what if you fall forward? Remember: If ONE door closes many others will open; you just need to be patient and wait for the right moment. Don't get frustrated or overwhelmed by things that later on will not matter.

I am an old soul. I will not lie...I miss the old days. I won't say that back in the day problems did not exist, but life, in general, used to be easier. Nowadays, life feels like it is just a competition and the only thing that matters is to win. Most people are selfish and just care about protecting their own heads.

What it's even more, people are not allowed to make mistakes because they are meant to be perfect. People are supposed to be know-it-all machines. People used to be more open and spend more time together, enjoying simple things. Now, we are like empty souls looking for some type of attention that will not last long.

For this reason and many more, you should stop listening and caring about other people's opinions; especially if they solely reflect negativity. You should stick to your own morals and principles--listen to that inner voice telling you what is right.

One last thing to remember, "you were given this life because you are strong enough to live it," and You Only Live Once. So, what are you going to do next?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
