Well, almost daily. Lately, it's been difficult to get (and stay) on track of a healthy lifestyle. My last semester of college, and all of the post graduation stress have completely annihilated what little bit of discipline that I previously had unfortunately.
However, one thing that I've been pretty consistent with during these past few months is staying hydrated throughout the day though. While there is an equation to figure out how much water you need to drink everyday, I go ahead and aim for a gallon.
When I started on my health journey, I thought that goal was pretty ambitious. Now, I don't think twice about it, as I've figured out the best ways for me to ingest a gallon everyday. Here's how I do it.
Get a Big Ole Jug
At night, I like to fill my huge jug up and place it in the refrigerator. That way, I can have some nice cold water to drink in the morning. I prefer my jug to a water bottle because it's easier to sip all day long, versus getting refills every other hour. The revolving door-like task of going to a water fountain all day is not only daunting, but annoying.
Remixed H20
I've always hated those powder packets that you can mix into your water. All of them have this really weird aftertaste. I felt like I might as well have regular berry flavored juice than the imitation.
However, upon learning that you could add natural flavor to water was a total game changer. Personally, I love squeezing lemon and dropping chunks of cucumber into my water. Not only is it delicious, but it has so many benefits that boost energy, digestion, etc. Plus, there's a lot of fruit water medleys out there to try. I haven't tried them all, but I've yet to get tired of my lemon-water.
P.S. Tea is another fave. I like to squeeze lemon in there too.
Thinking Outside the Box
When I think about my water intake, I consider what I eat too. Most foods have some water in it, so I try to eat things with a high water content. The blueberries that I like to put in my oatmeal are 85 percent water. The watermelon that I like to snack on has about 92 percent water in it. Math isn't my strong suit, so it's hard to calculate how much water I'm getting from these foods. I just remain mindful that although it's a small contribution, these kinds of foods count toward my goal.
Those are my methods to making sure I stay hydrated all day long. It's super simple, but pretty effective.
