As the summer drags on, the summer commute only continues. I have created a guide for all my fellow summer interns still learning how to master the daily commute to New York City. God Speed.

Give Yourself 10 Extra Minutes

Whether you're taking the bus or the train it is crucial to give yourself extra time to make sure you make it on time! Traffic, accidents and just running late one day can make or break your ideal commute. You'll thank yourself for getting there a little bit early and not feeling the early morning anxiety.

Plan Ahead

Make sure you know what bus/train you need to take to give yourself enough time to get into the city and to make it to your office. Whether you have a 5 minute walk or 2 subway rides to the office you should plan accordingly. And to all my interns out there remember, getting into the office 10 minutes early shows a little eagerness !!

Wear Comfortable Shoes

Every morning I wear a pair of white Nike sneakers while commuting and it is LIFE CHANGING. Save yourself the pain and blisters mules, heels or flats and just change into your work shoes once at the office.

Buy Tickets in Bulk

Save yourself the anxiety of waiting in line to buy your metro card or train ticket in hopes that you will make it before the train comes and goes. Buy monthly or weekly pass for the train or bus online or on your phone. Put $40.00 on your metro card at one time or invest in a smart-link account. This way you will never have to stress about if you will buy your ticket in time to make the next train.

Bring Things to Entertain Yourself With

THIS. IS. ESSENTIAL. Unless you truly enjoy making weird eye contact with strangers at 7 am I suggest you bring some things to distract yourself from the daily commute. Things such as: earbuds, a book, a journal, or even a coloring book. Whatever floats your boat.

Bring Something to Drink

Doesn't matter if it's water, coffee, tea or apple juice, there is something about the morning commute that just brings out the inner thirst in everyone. I opt for my blue hydroflask filled with cold water to drink in the mornings. For those who needs their caffeine bring a to-go cup of coffee or tea! It'll wake you up on the way to work and you won't have to go buy Dunkin or Starbucks.

Be Quiet

Giphy

The last thing anyone wants to hear at 7 AM on a Monday is someone yelling about their best friends sisters birthday party and how Brad didn't show up when he said he would. Try to be considerate of others and be quiet on the train/bus/subway. If you are going to talk at least keep it at an acceptable level, thank you.

Finally, Don't Let Anyone Get in Your Way

Giphy

You are on a mission to arrive to work on time and with as little problems as possible. Don't let anyone mess with you or your destiny.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
