How Girls Really Get Ready For A Night Out

No, there aren't actually pillow fights.

There’s some sort of bonding ritual girls go through every week. It’s true what they say — you’re never truly close with someone until you get ready with them. I’m not talking about getting ready to go to class, even though this can apply to that. I’m focusing on the type of getting ready to go out that requires smokey makeup, heated hair tools, loud music, and an abundance of pictures. Whether you’re going out to a party or to a big game, there’s some sort of ritual that goes into dressing up. We all have our own ways of doing things, and it’s always way more fun to do them with your friends.

1. Prep Work.

There’s a lot of prep work that goes into getting ready for girls. First, if you’re the one having it at your place, you attempt to make your room clean. (Attempt being the key word). It’s inevitable that it’ll just become a mess again, especially when you’re surrounded by so many girls, but if you can make it look any more presentable, now’s the time. Also, you’ll try to find something to eat before everyone shows up, that way you guys don’t waste time trying to find food later on.

2. Getting Settled.

It’s a given that everyone’s going to show up at least fifteen minutes late. So, one by one, they show up and get their things settled down. Heated hair tools are plugged in, spots around the room are claimed, and mirrors are propped up with the room’s lights on bright in order to give the best lighting.

3. Outfits.

Some girls bring one outfit, and others bring five. First, everyone has to make sure they aren’t wearing the same things. Once that’s out of the way, there’s always at least one girl who will beg you to borrow one of your shirts or a pair of shoes because it just goes with her outfit so much better than whatever she brought with her.

4. Makeup.

Makeup and hair can be switched, depending on which you’d rather do first. Somehow there’s always one girl in the group who just does makeup better than the others, so they’re usually being asked to help their friends out with their smokey eyes or contouring their cheekbones.

5. Hair.

Generally there’s not enough outlets in a bathroom for everyone to be doing their hair at the same time, so they take turns with who’s using the curling iron first.

6. Checking Yourself Out.

Someone has to do it before you leave for the night!

7. Selfies.

For every girl in the group, there has to be at least six selfies per person. And once they’re taken, it’s the arguments about who’s photo looks best and which one they should use. (Whatever they say, you know you’ll post the one you look the best in).

8. At Least One Instagram Upload.

Who knows when the next time you’ll have WiFi is? And plus, if your current crush is active on Instagram right now, you’re not gonna wait to post those photos! It might take a few minutes to come up with a witty caption, but somehow emojis always get you.

9. So What’s The Plan?

And, of course, we go over the plan multiple times, each time with another slight change. The person having the party says to show up later, your ex is at the party right now so you don’t even want to go at all, and there’s always someone who doesn’t understand why you don’t just Uber it.

10. Do We Really Have To Go Out?

Going out comes with a lot of stress, and sometimes you just want to look at your friends and say “Why don’t we just stay in?” I mean, the Instagram photos are done, and the party is supposed to be lame anyway. Netflix and Dominos for the night?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
