1. Short term goals
Working out is a slow, gradual process. It is important to set realistic, short-term goals when beginning to start working out. For example, set a small term goal like going to the gym four times a week, doing cardio for 20 minutes three days a week, or lose 10 pounds. Even short term goals like this take at least a few months of working out, eating healthy, and consistency to reach and achieve any noticeable results. It takes four weeks for you to see your body changing, eight weeks for your friends and family, and 12 weeks for the rest of the world. Keep going! Plan a fitness routine create one that you are willing to maintain and follow.
2. Don’t tire yourself out
When you first start going to the gym and getting into your workouts, don’t start out by working so hard. A lot of people start out the first two weeks by working out hard every single day, going to every class, eating healthy, going home exhausted, and tiring themselves out too much. Going into the gym like this will only tire a person out and make you not want to go anymore. Instead, try going to the gym with a plan and not do too much. Remember to be realistic with your fitness routine.
3. Don’t skip workouts
There are days (even weeks) that you are going to have no motivation or no time to go to the gym, but that shouldn’t stop you from working out because you can still do a workout at home. It's understandable that people get busy and schedules change and get crazy. Be consistent with your workouts whether you are at home or at the gym. Try your best to not skip working out entirely.
4. Eat healthy
Eating healthy and clean is an important part of getting fit. You should be eating a balanced diet to go along with you workouts. Good nutrition combined with physical activity is an important part of living a healthy lifestyle. Your diet can help you to reach and maintain a healthy weight, reduce your risk of chronic diseases and promote your overall health.
5. Stay motivated after you start working out
The first few weeks of going to the gym will be tough, but after a few weeks your workouts will be more doable and working out will become like a routine to you. Just focus on your short term goals and eventually set the bar higher and achieve those goals as you progress. Lastly, after you start working out, keep in mind that you are farther than when you started.
