There is no presidential candidate more talked about than Donald Trump. With a net worth of $4 billion, it is hard to argue that he isn't a legitimate candidate. He is a serious contender for the Presidency that should not be overlooked.
With the recent endorsement from Sarah Palin, Trump is leading the Republican primary polls at 34 percent and Ted Cruz is (not so closely) behind at 14 percent. I am going to go ahead and address the elephant in the room; Donald Trump is an excellent and qualified presidential candidate. What better person to lead the diverse melting pot of American citizens than a rich, conservative white man?
Donald Trump has the appeal of being a Washington outsider, which gives him distance from the recent disdain voters have for politicians and the corruption that D.C. is known for. The last outsider president was Jimmy Carter, the one term president whose presidency ended on a high note with Iran hostage crisis from 1979-1981.
We all know that Trump has an impressive business resumé, but not many people are aware that he is a perfect example of a true American dream. He started with nothing and built an empire. As he said in a press conference, "It has not been easy for me, it has not been easy for me. And you know I started off in Brooklyn, my father gave me a small loan of a million dollars." Coming from having almost nothing, taking a small loan and building a massive estate, he is what every American hopes to be.
It has been established that he is a powerful man with a heartwarming story, but what about his political stances? Donald Trump has displayed an incredible talent at letting his policies "evolve" and change over time. For instance, in his book published in 2000, The America We Deserve, he wrote that he supports a ban on assault weapons and a longer waiting period to buy a gun, but now he is a self-declared 2nd Amendment advocate. After all, it does not matter if your values change, as long as you say your current ones REALLY LOUDLY.
Trump has also made a major change to his stance on abortion. He previously went on record in the early 2000s saying that, "I believe it is a personal decision that should be left to the women and their doctors.” However, he has recently recounted this experience that he had with a close friend of his that changed his mind. He said that, "His wife was pregnant. She was pregnant and he didn't really want the baby. And he was telling me the story. He was crying as he was telling me the story. He ends up having the baby and the baby is the apple of his eye. It's the greatest thing that's ever happened to him." What a kind and loving story about a man recounting the story of how a woman made a choice about her own body and it ended up benefitting him!
Mr. Trump is a very loving and accepting individual. He likes to joke around and have fun. In the first republican debate, he was confronted with a comment he made: "You once told a contestant on Celebrity Apprentice it would be a pretty picture to see her on her knees." Clearly as a white man, he is well within his rights to comment on the sexual appeal of a woman without being considered a "misogynist."
One of the main accusations facing Mr. Trump is that he is a flaming racist, which is untrue, because in a CNN interview, he even states, "I have tremendous people that I know that are Muslim," and as a man who knows a tremendous amount of Muslims, he could not possibly be racist.
Donald Trump is an impeccable businessman, so why wouldn't he make an amazing politician, too? The professions practically go hand in hand. If there is one person that is capable of making America great again, it is Donald Trump, and it is a really simple solution: he can leave. So Donald, you're fired.
