With the Olympics having concluded this past Sunday, let us admit it: we're all a little sad. Whether we realize it or not, we live vicariously through the Olympic broadcasts on our couches, running the treadmill at the gym, or laying in our beds with a box of oreos. Even though we may not have actually run the race, stuck it at the end of that gymnastics routine, or gotten the the time we needed for in the Freestyle, we definitely feel the same as our Olympians. Here are some examples of how us couch potatoes actually live vicariously through our olympians
Pretty sure that we also just got the Gold too, or Silver, Or Bronze
Anyone who watched the Olympics knows the feeling; this year when Simone Biles got her Gold for her floor routine, or Michael Phelps getting his last before retiring, you can guarantee that we were just as excited and filled with just as much pride as the Olympians themselves. It was most definitely us that won that Medal, and us who stood up there on the podium while our National Anthem was played.
The Drama, Oh The Drama
When Ryan Lochte came out and said he was mugged when he was in Rio, you bet we were irritated. We probably wanted to go over there ourselves and tell them that he was telling the truth. Just like every year, we were just as much concerned about the ages of the tiny Chinese girls in the Gymnastics trials. We also probably discussed whether or not we thought it was acceptable for Gabby Douglas to not have her hand over her heart, or the new "cupping" that a lot of the swimmers were doing this year. Their drama is definitely our drama.
We arranged the calendar for events
Chances are, most of us are going to have to deep clean our DVR this week from the hours of events we have recorded from the last two weeks. They make sure to be at the location of their next event when they need to be. We arrange our schedules to be there too, or as close as we can be.
American Pride Is Contagious
Most of us have no shame in saying that we get teary eyed when we watch our olympians stand and sing along to our National Anthem after they get their metals. Some of us hard core fans probably even stood up in our living rooms with our hands over our hearts and tears in our eyes. But seriously, the Olympics is definitely one of the things that unites our country and gets us excited to cheer and support America's best.
