Hitting Sophomore Year

Everyone hypes up the first year, but what about the second?

I love my school, and I love my fellow students almost as much. But now that we have freshman year behind us and the basic college essentials under our belt, what is there left to learn? What is there to do? While it's a great relief not to have to freak out about how to navigate the various aspects of college (creating a study groove, finding a social circle, etc.), there's a slight twinge of longing for the fresh-faced adventure of college rather than a return to the lifestyle we know. With all that in mind, sophomore year of school will be a brand new experience that is remarkably far from dull.

In my opinion, entering our sophomore year is less of a big deal than entering freshman year. We know our campus, we know our friends, we've established some sort of social standing, and some of us have figured out our majors and fields of study. With all these decisions made, it's easier to go into the year. The hardest part is lugging all our stuff to our new living spaces, and making sure we continually study and stay organized. It's also nice knowing we already have a taste of being independent so it's less likely we'll overdose on that kind of freedom. In fact, we might learn even more responsibility and have less of a craving for the raw, unabashed feeling of losing control that grips us so intensely our first year.

In terms of being social, we don't have to learn as much if we're staying at the same school as before. Having our own constructed family of friends is incredible, and it's a relief to know where we stand in our studies and various social activities. But we also need to be willing to help new younger students. Just because we're not going to be freshman again doesn't mean we can neglect the ones who are right now. I know that sounds super clichéd, but it's a truth of life. Newcomers will be nervous coming in. and if you want to, you could sit near them or knock on their door if you live in a freshman dorm.

I can't wait to start my sophomore year with the greatest people I know! I'm looking forward to some grueling coursework, nights spent binge-watching Netflix and eating ice cream with my amazing flatmates, and enjoying the experience of being a young adult away from home. My nursing major friends and I are greatly anticipating applying for nursing school, and we can't wait to see everyone again! In addition to that, we older students are so excited to have all the new kids coming in and hope your college experience goes as well as ours has!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
