If The Cliques From Your High School Days Were Superheroes

Stereotypical high school cliches and which superhero they would be.

One of the biggest assumptions on high schools is their stereotypical cliques. "High School Musical" burned it into our heads to never break those stereotypes (Thanks, "Stick To The Status Quo") and then encouraged us again to break that stereotype (Looking at you, Troy Bolton).

Whether those stereotypes still exist as strongly today or not depends on the school and the students. It's a lot easier today to be in multiple "cliques" and cliches. That being said, I'm going to focus on those stereotypical high school cliches and which superhero they would be.

1. Football Jocks: Superman

This seems kind of obvious because everyone looks up to the football stars, and everyone looks up to Superman as the cool dude.

2. Techies: Iron Man

I guess it's more Tony Stark than Iron Man, but still. He's good with technology, and he knows his suit as if it's a part of him (...it kind of is) and those techies in high school are the same way about their computers.

3. Track-letes: The Flash

Obviously, those on track can only wish to be as speedy as The Fastest Man Alive. But, he's definitely their spirit superhero.

4. Student Council: Captain America

Cap is the team leader. Student Council leads the school. They both call the shots. Seems like a good match to me.

5. Emos/Goths: Batman

This gif completely disregards Batman's dark and brooding personality, but with his love of black clothing, dark caves and the extra deep voice, he is the stereotypical goths we meet in high school.

6. Cheerleaders: Black Widow

Just hear me out: Black Widow is insanely flexible but also a trained assassin and will kill you if she needs to. Sounds like a pretty stereotypical cheerleader, right? They may not all be like that, but when you read/watch those "queen bee" types, the resemblance can be uncanny.

7. Swim Team: Aquaman

This seems kind of simple, I don't think I need to explain.

8. Drama Geeks: The Invisible Woman

Nowadays, the drama department is actually the place the be, and if you're in the school play/musical, you're pretty cool. But it used to be the lamest place to be and you were pretty much invisible in school, which is why I chose Susan Storm (AKA The Invisible Woman) as our drama geeks.

9. Band Geeks: Spider-Man

Spider-Man is my personal favorite, and I honestly feel like he's really underrated (despite having been portrayed by three different wonderful actors for multiple movies for each.) He's kind of seen as the "little kid" among the other superheroes, and slowly, but surely, he's making his way into the "cool" with them just like the band geeks with high school.

10. Stoners: Beast Boy

Beast Boy changes shape a lot, and he's often really hyper and eating... and though I've never personally done drugs, I know you can hallucinate and get the munchies. I just think that the stoners are Beast Boy.

11. Basketball Stars: Thor

Thor says that you cannot hold his hammer unless you are "worthy." (Cocky) Basketball stars can be the same way. They are well admired at schools where basketball is huge, and those who aren't on the team hold them to some higher esteem.

12. Wrestlers: Hulk

Now, not every school has a wrestling team. But if you do, you most likely have at least one guy who has the temperament of The Hulk.

There are so many more superheroes out there that I would've loved to cover and explore more, but I began running out of high school cliches.

None of these are 100 percent accurate, but it's fun to see any groups we belong to or look up to get compared to something as silly as superheroes.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
