Here's To 2016

You were full of ups and downs.

Here's To 2016
Business Insider

To 2016,

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I'm kind of glad you're over. You were full of a few good times and many bad. The bad times were rough:

July 2016
Oh, my lovely breakup from my girlfriend of eight months. I had several anxiety attacks and many emotional breakdowns because of this breakup.

November 2016
Trump won the presidency.

Do I have to go any deeper into that?

He looks like a Cheeto and has the intellect and presidential experience of a Cheeto too.

December 2016
I reflected on how I've lost a few people who were once important to me. It's not necessarily because we had a big fall out, but sometimes people just grow apart.

They become less important in your life. They stop messaging you like they used to. They stop caring about you. They talk to you like you're merely an acquaintance. It breaks your heart, but some things you can't fight for anymore. Sometimes letting go is the best thing even if it hurts you in the end.

The good things were great:

May 2016
I got my first 4.0 in college. If that's not an accomplishment, I'm not sure what is.

I also took a trip with my best friend to Canada. We went to see the sights in Ontario and meet my girlfriend for the first time. We went to the CN Tower, the Ripley's Aquarium, The Toronto Zoo, and Niagara Falls. I enjoyed the time with my best friend and girlfriend, and it was an experience I will never forget. It was my first road trip with a friend, and I had a blast! Also, it was my first time visiting Canada since I was seven.

July 2016-September 2016
I started talking to someone who is now my best friend and my girlfriend. She started off as someone I'd talk to almost every day over the summer. Then we started hanging out when we returned to school and I've never fallen in love with someone like that. She quickly learned how to make my tears turn into smiles and my heart explode like a volcano. She taught me that it's okay to put my heart on the line again. I trust her with my heart, and she trusts me with hers. I love her with every fiber of my being, and I've never been happier in a relationship as I am now.

In September, I reconnected with a friend I met freshman year and we became friends again.

December 2016
I finished my senior thesis and earned a 100! I was very proud of myself.

All of 2016
Well, it was full of tons of laughs, hours of fun times with my best friends, and lots of fun experiences I'll never forget.

Thank you, 2016, for helping me grow and learn. You may have been full of tears, regrets, mistakes, annoyance, disappointment and so many other things, but I'll still appreciate you. You brought me some very important people who I hope are in my life for a really long time.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
